IPL 2025 Auction: 13 players from Bengal and their details

BCCI on Friday released the full list of players for the upcoming IPL 2025 Auction, set to take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on 24th and 25th November 2024. Among the 574 players on that list, 13 players from the Cricket Association of Bengal will go under the hammer including 4 capped and 9 uncapped players. Like every year, we will take you through with details of those players along with the information about which team can go for them in the auction.

Capped Bengal players in the IPL 2025 Auction

4 capped Bengal players will go under the hammer in this IPL auction. With only Abishek Porel getting retained as an uncapped Indian player from Bengal by Delhi Capitals, and Wriddhiman Saha opting out from the IPL, we have four players who will certainly find themselves in any of the teams this season.

1. Mohammed Shami | INR 2 cr

Mohammed Shami scalped 14 wickets in only 4 games in the 2019 World Cup - sportzpoint.com

Mohammed Shami will be one of the players under the spotlight in this mega auction. The highest wicket-taker in ICC World Cup 2023 has not played any international game since the World Cup final due to a knee injury and was subsequently released by Gujarat Titans in the retention period.

Shami has listed himself in the top bracket of INR 2 cr and he will come in the auction in the second set of marquee players. Recently Shami has featured for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy game against Madhya Pradesh and it looks like he is not far from bowling his best. Teams like Punjab Kings, and Gujarat Titans will surely go for him with cash in the bank. But, it is likely that if he comes up at the beginning of the auction, Shami will surely go for more than INR 10 cr with multiple teams bidding for him.

2. Mukesh Kumar | INR 2 cr

Mukesh Kumar has had a good spell for Delhi Capitals in the last two seasons. However, the franchise decided to release him during the retention period. The medium pacer from Bihar, who plays for Bengal in the domestic circuit, has been one of the best bowlers in the first-class arena and has shown his skill with great accuracy in the 65 T20 games he has played so far.

His T20 economy rate of 8.86 can sometimes mislead you into believing how good he was for Delhi Capitals in some tough conditions. Mukesh has listed himself in the top bracket of INR 2 cr and will come in the auction in the second set of fast bowlers.

3. Akash Deep | INR 2 cr

Akash Deep - sportzpoint.com

The Cricket Association of Bengal has been producing a few of the very best fast bowlers in Indian domestic cricket since the last decade. Along with Mohammed Shami, both Mukesh Kumar and Akash Deep have gone on to don the India jersey from Bengal as medium pacers in recent times. Just like Mukesh, Akash Deep also hails from Bihar but represents Bengal in the domestic circuit.

Akash has been one of the for India beside Jasprit Bumrah in some recent test series and will surely be one of the key bowlers to watch out for in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as well. Earlier Akash was trusted by Virat Kohli and RCB in the Indian Premier League and do not be surprised if Kohli and the team go for him in the auction as well.

Akash has listed himself in the INR 1 cr bracket and will come in the auction in the second set of fast bowlers.

4. Shahbaz Ahmed | INR 1 cr

Shahbaz Ahmed has been performing for Bengal consistently in the last few seasons which helped him get a chance to represent Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2020. After some useful contributions with both bat and ball, Shahbaz spent three years with RCB and eventually was bought back by them in IPL 2023.

However, after a not-so-good IPL 2023, he was traded to Sunrisers Hyderabad for Mayank Dagar. In IPL 2024, Shahbaz scored 215 runs at a strike rate of 129.5 1 and took 7 wickets in 16 games.

The left-arm spinning all-rounder has listed himself in the INR 1 cr bracket and will go under the hammer in the third set of all-rounders.

The top-order batter from Bengal is yet to be bought by any franchise till now. Though Easwaran has been one of the top performers in the first-class circuit, there have been questions over his T20 game since the beginning.

Easwaran is currently with the Indian team in Australia and can make his international debut down under as a back-up opener if Rohit Sharma misses one test there. He has been listed in the third list of uncapped batters with a base price of INR 30 lakhs.

Ishan Porel | INR 30 Lakhs

Ishan Porel - Cricketer - sportzpoint.com

Ishan Porel once was touted as the next big thing from Bengal as he was an inch close to making his international debut two years back. However, a few injuries did not help his cause and even found himself out of the Ranji squad before the start of this season.

However, the 26-year-old pacer has found his rhythm back post-injury and a "player of the match" performance against Kerala proved that he is still one of the best Bengal has to offer. Porel in 2021 had featured in one game for Punjab Kings and will surely be one of the key names in the third set of uncapped fast bowlers.

Sudip Gharami | INR 30 lakhs

The 26-year-old batter has looked great in the first class and List-A cricket for Bengal and was linked with Sunrisers Hyderabad before the IPL 2023 season. However, despite a few trials with SRH and KKR, Gharami was unable to find a team in the Indian Premier League that season.

Sportz Point can confirm that Sudip has been called by Delhi Capitals for a trial before this auction and they have a keen eye on him as well.

Ravi Kumar | INR 30 lakhs

Ravi Kumar, the U-19 World Cup winner in 2022 has had some limited opportunities for Bengal since bursting on the scene. The 21-year-old left-arm medium pacer will be in demand due to the variations he has got up his sleeves and was linked in Chennai Super Kings as well.

Ravi had some good trials with CSK and Lucknow Super Giants earlier and those trials have gone well for the left-arm quick as well. However, due to the busy schedule of the C.K. Nayudu Trophy, Ravi has not been able to take part in any of the recent trials so far. Delhi Capitals also has shown interest in this Bengal pacer.

Sayed Irfan Aftad | INR 30 lakhs

Uncapped Bengal players in the IPL 2025 Auction - Sayed Irfan Aftab - sportzpoint.com

Irfan has been one of the most promising young pacers from Bengal and after doing well in U-19 and U-23s for Bengal, he was named in the provisional Ranji squad ahead of the current season as well. The 21-year-old fast bowler is the nephew of former KKR pacer Eklakh Ahmed and has a raw pace which can surprise one and all.

Irfan impressed at trials for the SRH team and has been called by Delhi Capitals for the trials as well. However, just like Ravi Kumar, his busy schedule with the Bengal U-23 team has restricted him from going for a few trials.

Writtick Chatterjee | INR 30 lakhs

The 32-year-old all-rounder was previously with the Punjab Kings team in 2021. But, after getting dropped from the Bengal team, made his return to the biggest league in the world a bit tough. However, after a return to the Bengal team, Chatterjee will be keen to make his IPL debut for any franchise.

With Punjab having faith in him a few years back, it will be interesting to see if they go for him again in this auction after a stunning Bengal Pro T20 League 2024, where he was the player of the tournament.

He has been listed in the night list of uncapped all-rounders.

Prayas Ray Barman | INR 30 lakhs

Exclusive: From IPL debut to a matured all-rounder, Prayas Ray Barman aiming to turn things back on track with Bengal Pro T20 League - sportzpoint.com

Prayas Ray Barman had a brief glimpse of the riches and rigours of the Indian Premier League when in 2018 he became the youngest to play in the tournament. But, after his debut game against the Sunriseres, the young leg-spinner lost his way.

However, after a decent Bengal Pro T20 League 2024, Prayas has given himself enough opportunity to be in the biggest league in cricket. He has shifted himself as an all-rounder who bats at the top of the order and is currently the captain of the Bengal U-23 team.

Kaushik Maity is another name that will go under the hammer in the ninth list of uncapped all-rounders in the IPL 2025 mega auction. The ambidextrous spinner, who can bowl with both hands, was in last year's auction as well.

Maity has played in only white-ball formats for Bengal and has gone for Mumbai Indian's trials recently. He was impressive in the match trials there for the five-time champions. Along with that, the 25-year-old all-rounder had gone for Rajasthan Royals' trials as well where the bowled against the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag and Dhruv Jurel.

Ramesh Prasad | INR 30 lakhs

The 30-year-old left-arm spinner was one of the surprising names in the auction list this year. The tall, accurate spinner has been associated with Bengal cricket for a long now but played only one first-class game back in 2020.

Mohammed Shami has been a long-standing and key figure in Bengal's domestic cricketing landscape. After being ruled out of the previous IPL season (2024) due to an ankle injury, he made a comeback this year as Sunrisers Hyderabad's key pick and second-highest buy for ₹10 crore.

Shami had a somewhat mixed IPL 2025 season and struggled with consistency and his lengths. After his stellar Purple Cap-winning season in 2023, his 2025 campaign saw him take 6 wickets in 9 matches, with an economy of 11.25.

However, Shami continued to prove his excellence by becoming the only bowler in IPL history to claim a first-ball wicket 4 times. He achieved the fourth one by dismissing Shaik Rasheed in the SRH vs CSK match in the 2025 season.

Major setback for BCCI as Bombay HC orders to pay ₹538 crore to defunct IPL team Kochi Tuskers Kerala | sportzpoint.com

For years, the Board of Control for Crock in India (BCCI) has navigated various challenges. However a recent coury order is set to have a major financial impact on the sport's governing body.

This ruling revisits a past chapter involving a former IPL team and a long-standing dispute with them. The decision has arrived after a decade of the case, and brings a major setback for BCCI as Bombay HC orders to pay ₹538 crore to defunct IPL team Kochi Tuskers Kerala.

Read the full story to know why.

How the BCCI-Kochi Tuskers Kerala dispute began

Major setback for BCCI as Bombay HC orders to pay ₹538 crore to defunct IPL team Kochi Tuskers Kerala | sportzpoint.com
BCCI authorities, 2025. Image | Facebook

The root of this major legal battle dates back to 2011, when the BCCI terminated the contract of the IPL team Kochi Tuskers Kerala. The team, managed by Kochi Cricket Private Limited (KCPL), had only played in one IPL season.

The BCCI claimed they ended the contract because Kochi Tuskers failed to provide a required annual bank guarantee by a deadline in March 2011. This was seen by the BCCI as a serious breach of their agreement.

However, the team owners had a different view. They argued that their delay was due to several issues, including problems with the stadium in Kochi and delays in getting necessary approvals. They also stated that the BCCI continued to deal with them and even accepted payments for months after the March deadline.

The team owners believed this showed the BCCI had waived or overlooked the deadline, making their sudden contract termination unfair.

Taking the matter to arbitration:

Because they felt the termination was wrong, the Kochi Tuskers owners took the matter to arbitration in 2012. An independent tribunal looked at all the facts. In June 2015, this tribunal ruled in favor of Kochi Tuskers Kerala.

The tribunal specifically directed the BCCI to pay ₹384.83 crore to Kochi Cricket Private Limited (KCPL) for lost earnings and ₹153.34 crore to Rendezvous Sports World (RSW) for a wrongfully cashed bank guarantee. These amounts also included interest and legal costs.

The Financial Fallout: Why ₹538 crore to be paid now?

Bombay High Court. Image | Wikipedia

The BCCI challenged the 2015 arbitration award in the Bombay High Court, arguing it was unfair and that the damages were too high. However, the recent Bombay HC ruling upheld the original arbitration decision.

This means the BCCI is now legally required to pay a total of over ₹538 crore, including accumulated interest since 2015, to the KTK owners. This represents a major financial loss and a significant legal defeat for the Indian cricket board.
