Gujarat Titans defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by seven wickets in Match 39 of IPL 2023, at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Chasing the target of 180 runs, GT reached 180/3 in 17.5 overs, courtesy of a brilliant partnership between Vijay Shankar & David Miller. For KKR, Sunil Narine and Harshit Rana, and Andre Russell took a wicket each. KKR reached 179/7 in 20 overs after Gurbaz's brilliant knock of 81 runs off 39 balls, packed with five fours and seven sixes. Andre Russell also played a quickfire knock of 34 off 19 deliveries, including two fours and three sixes. For GT's bowling department, Mohammed Shami was in good form and took three wickets, Joshua Little and Noor Ahmed scalped two dismissals each. KKR vs GT: IPL 2023 Match Report
Gujarat Titans won the toss & decided to bowl first. Jagadeesan & Gurbaz started the proceedings for Kolkata Knight Riders with the bat while Shami came into the bowl in the first over. KKR scored 16 runs in the first 2 overs but Shami picked up the wicket of Jagadeesan for 19 runs in the third over. Gurbaz started really well by scoring boundaries but Shami gave another blow in the fifth over. Gurbaz took responsibility on his hand and fought alone as the other batters failed big time to step up.
Joshua Little picked up the wicket of Venkatesh Iyer in the 11th over. It looked like Gurbaz and Iyer made a decent partnership but it was all Gurbaz who added runs to the scoresheet. Iyer only managed to score 11 runs after facing 14 deliveries while skipper Nitish Rana also failed to construct his inning and got dismissed for only 4 runs. Joshua Little was the bowler who got these 2 crucial wickets.
Rinku Singh & Gurbaz set up a partnership of 47 runs but once again it was Gurbaz who scored most of the runs. Rinku Singh wasn't able to boost his inning and lost his wicket for 19 runs after facing 20 deliveries. Noor Ahmed got rid of the dangerous bater Gurbaz for 81 runs. He reached the mark in only 39 deliveries with 7 sixes and 5 fours. Andre Russell played a short but effective cameo at the end by scoring 34 runs in just 19 deliveries with 3 sixes and 2 fours.
Mohammed Shami dismissed Russell and ended his spell with a total of 3 wickets. Joshua Little & Noor Ahmed had 4 economic overs each and they ended their spell with 2 wickets each. Kolkata Knight Riders put up 179 runs after the end of 20 overs.
KKR vs GT: IPL 2023 Match Report
Wriddhiman Saha & Shubman Gill started the chase of 180 runs for Gujarat Titans. Although Saha got dismissed for only 10 runs, Shubman Gill & Hardik Pandya stepped up and took Gujarat to a brilliant position. Hardik Pandya scored 26 runs and made a 50 runs partnership with Shubman Gill. Harshit Rana got rid of the opposition skipper but since then, the riot started to begin.
Shubman Gill packed his inning with 8 boundaries but missed out on his half-century as Sunil Narine dismissed him. David Miller & Vijay Shankar took guard and converted the match to a totally different level. They constructed a huge partnership of 87 runs in just 39 deliveries and finished the chase in style.
Shankar smashed a six to get his fifty off 24 balls. He slammed 5 sixes and 2 fours to get there. David Miller scored 32 runs in just 18 deliveries with 2 sixes and 2 fours. Gujarat Titans completed the chase in just 17.5 overs and won the match by 7 wickets.
