Rahul Dravid, the former Indian batsman and current head coach of team India comes at the sixth place on the list. Dravid has recorded 50 wins as Indian captain thus he makes his entry on this list of Indian captains with most matches won under. Dravid-led India in 104 international games(25 Tests, 79 ODIs), in which he returned with 50 wins and 39 losses, the rest 15 games remained drawn.

With 50th win as Indian captain, Rohit Sharma makes his entry on this list. He was a part time captain till Kohli was the captain of the team. After leading India in 62 international games (16 ODIs, 44 T20Is), Rohit registered his 50th win as captain. In rest of the 12 games under Rohit captaincy India lost or drawn the game. However, he is yet to lead India in the longest format of the game.

#4. Sourav Ganguly | 97 wins

The fourth position is occupied by former Indian captain and current BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, who recorded 97 wins as Indian captain at the international level. In 195 matches in which Ganguly-led team India, they managed to win in 97 occasions while in the rest 98 games India lost(78) or the game ended with draw/NR(20). However, he still remains the most successful captain in Test cricket when it comes to overseas wins.

#3. Mohammad Azharuddin | 104 wins

Former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin makes his entry at the third place on this list of Indian captains with 104 wins at the international cricket. Azharuddin-led India in 221 matches(47 Tests, 174 ODIs) in which India won 104 games while lost or ended up as draw in the rest 117 games. He was then handed over the captaincy batton to Sourav Ganguly thereafter Ganguly guided India in several World Cups.

#2. Virat Kohli | 135 wins

The second place on this list is currently occupied by former Indian captain and current batting great Virat Kohli, who recorded 135 wins while captaining team India. In 211 matches under Kohli India won in 135 games while suffered a defeat in 59 games. The rest 17 games remained tie or no result. Kohli is one of the most successful Indian test captain who has recorded a Test series win in all SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia) countries.

Now, it’s not a surprise that former Indian World Cup winning captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is at the top of this list. With 178 wins in 311 international matches MS Dhoni comes at the top on this list of Indian captains with the most matches won as Indian captain. In those 311 games, MS led India in 60 Tests, 199 ODIs, and 72 T20Is till he captained the side. Moreover, as captain Dhoni has won two World Cups in two different formats while also won the Champions Trophy and a Test mace.
