The role of a captain is probably the most tedious and strenuous task in the team. The skipper needs to lead the entire team, take the important decisions and play their own role as a cricketer as well. They are always expected to be in their best form or get criticized way too much for the smallest of mistakes. It is definitely not easy being a captain of the team but still many captains have proved themselves and brought glory and victory for the team. Here is a list of such 5 captains who have scored the most T20I runs by a captain in a calendar year.

#5. Aaron Finch | Australia | 459* (2021)

Australian skipper Aaron Finch comes up at 5th in this list of most T20I runs by a captain in a calendar year. Finch has smashed 459 runs so far in 2021 and registered his name in this elite list. Moreover, he has guided his team to the T20 World Cup 2021 victory as Australia lifted their first ever T20 World Cup title. Aaron Finch has scored the most runs(2608) for Australia in T20I cricket. He has scored with an average of 35.73 and a decent strike rate of 148.01 in those games. Moreover, he has a highest score of 172 runs in T20 internationals.

#4. Virat Kohli | India | 466 (2019)

Indian skipper Virat Kohli has scored 466 runs for his team back in the year 2019. However, that's made his entry in this list of most T20I runs by a captain. Virat has scored his 70th and last hundred exactly just 2 years ago that's included in those 466 runs. Virat has smashed 3227 runs in his T20I career with an brilliant average of 52.05. Kohli has a highest score of 94 and he played with a good strike rate of 137.91 in his T20I career. Also, he had done well for India as a batsman in T20 World Cups since 2012.

#3. Paras Khadka | Nepal | 470 (2019)

Former Nepal teams skipper Paras Khadka also registered his name in this list as he scored 470 runs for his team in the year 2019. The Nepali skipper has played in 27 matches, in which he has scored 620 T20I runs with an average of 26.96. He has smashed two half-century and a century in his T20I career including his highest score of 106 in the format. Khadka has retired from international cricket earlier this year after resigning as captain back in 2020.

#2. Mahmudullah | Bangladesh | 483* (2021)

Current Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah has scored 483 runs so far in this 2021 year for his team. He has guided his side in two back to back series victory earlier this year. Mahmudullah has scored 1970 runs in 105 innings that he has played for his side so far. He has played with an average of 24.02 and a strike rate of 117.75 in those games. Meanwhile, Mahmudullah also scalps 36 wickets in 67 innings that he has bowled for Bangladesh so far. Although, his team doesn't won a single match under him in the recently conducted T20 World Cup.

#1. Babar Azam | Pakistan | 834* (2021)

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has scored 834 runs this year for his team and is the leading run getter for this year in T20Is. However, Babar has scored the most runs(303) in this year's T20 World Cup and guided his team to the semi finals. Babar has scored 2534 runs with an average of 46.07 in his T20I career so far. Babar has 24 half-centuries and one century to his name. However, he has just played 65 innings in T20Is and already achieved many records and will surely add some more to his name in near future.
