MS Dhoni has always been an icon in the cricketing field. He has been one of the most successful limited-overs captains in the history of cricket while also have been successful in IPL history. With so many years in IPL with CSK he has achieved many feats and played lots of match-winning knocks for the team. In his IPL career, Dhoni has scored over 5000 runs, hit over 200 sixes, and holds the record for most caps and most dismissals in the Indian Premier League. But, he had to play for Rising Pune Super Giants in the 2016 and 2017 seasons as Chennai were banned from IPL for those two seasons. 

As a CSK batter, he has scored 4669 runs in 202 appearances with 22 half-centuries. Out of those runs, 1332 have come in the form of sixes as he struck 222 deliveries into the stands.

  2. Dhoni has the most dismissals as a wicketkeeper in IPL.
  3. The 42-year-old is the first player to feature in 250 matches in IPL.

Dhoni's Captaincy Record in IPL

The former Indian captain led CSK to the title in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021 and 2023. He is the only Indian captain to reach the IPL finals ten times. CSK finished as runners-up in the seasons 2008, 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2019 under his captaincy. There have never been two consecutive IPL finals without Chennai. No captain in IPL history has led in more matches or more wins than Dhoni.

The veteran skipper had stepped down from captaincy at the start of the 2022 season but had to take over the captaincy once again. He will lead the team again in IPL 2024.

Apart from leading CSK in IPL, Dhoni had also led RPSG in two seasons due to CSK's ban from the competition. RPSG also played one final but got beaten by Mumbai Indians.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni's statistically best season with the bat for Chennai came in the 2013 season. He scored 461 runs at an average of 41.90 and a strike rate of 162.89. Dhoni struck 25 maximums in that season and led CSK to the Final of the competition. However, they lost to Mumbai Indians by only 13 runs but Dhoni remained not out, scoring 63 runs off 45 deliveries. He could have won the final for his team but didn't get the support from the teammates.

The 42-year-old wicket-keeper batter still gives his everything for the Super Kings whenever the team and fans demand him. Dhoni batted ten times among the 14 games he has played for CSK this season and scored 161 runs at an average of 53.67. He maintained an impressive strike rate of 220.55 too. The best thing is he remained not out eight of those ten times he batted. 78 runs came only in the form of sixes this season for MSD as he struck 13 deliveries into the stands.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni's T20 Internationals stats for the Indian Cricket Team isn't that good. He made his T20I debut against South Africa in 2006 and led India to the final of the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup. Not only did India reach the final, but they lifted the title under MSD which is one of the biggest achievements of his career.

MSD scored 1617 runs in 85 innings at an average of 37.60 with only 2 half-centuries before taking the retirement. He played his last T20I game against Australia in 2019 in Bengaluru.
