Australia's ODI captain Aaron Finch has retired from this format. He played his last ODI against New Zealand on Sunday. The ODI World Cup will happen in India next year. Now 5-time ODI World Cup champion Australia will have to find a new captain. Test captain Pat Cummins is a strong contender to take over the responsibility, but it will depend on whether he will be able to take charge. But David Warner can also join the race as Cummins himself has called for the end of his life ban.

After the ball-tampering episode in 2018, the Australian cricket board banned former captain Steve Smith from captaincy for 2 years. While they banned David Warner's captaincy for life. David Warner will hold discussions with Cricket Australia (CA) in the coming weeks to end the life ban on his captaincy as the board wants to hand over the responsibility to another player in place of former ODI captain Aaron Finch. Finch announced his retirement from ODI cricket on Sunday due to poor form, with just 12 months left for next year's 50-over World Cup in India.

Although, Cummins has backed David Warner to be the new ODI captain of Australia. He called Warner a fantastic leader and said that Warner made his job as captain very easy on the field. Cummins insists that it is great to have guys like Warner on the field.

"It's not our decision to make but Davey is always a fantastic leader around the team. He makes my job as a captain very easy. I don't know the first thing about batting so having guys like Davey there to look after that is great," Cummins said.

On the other hand, It would be honorable for Warner to be given the responsibility of captaincy again. He said, "My phone is here. Any opportunity you get to captain, it's a privilege. It's in Cricket Australia's hands, I can only concentrate on what I've to do."
