Team News
Punjab Kings
The opening pair Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow have only put together one fifty-plus partnership this season. They both are having a terrible season and a strong opening pair is very important for a good start to any game. Dhawan has made 152 runs in five matches and looks completely out of touch. Bairstow has become a liability for the team and it seems Punjab are only using him as they don't have many options left on the bench.
Jitesh Sharma has made impactful cameos in the last two matches but the management is sending him out to bat so late. Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma have shown what they can do and right now they are the only positive in PBKS' batting. Sam Curran has done decently in the tournament so far. His contributions in both departments are vital to PBKS. He won the first game for PBKS with the bat and showed his bowling prowess in the match against LSG, picking up three wickets. Curran can be considered an unlucky player at the moment as he is bowling good sometimes but the fielders are dropping catches and while in the batting, he isn't getting any support from the other end. He is a top all-rounder and Punjab should manage him properly.
Sikandar Raza featured in the last two matches in place of injured Liam Livingstone but the all-rounder hasn't lived up to the expectations. Raza's form is crucial for the Kings as he can make the job of Shashank and Ashutosh much easier. Harpreet Brar, who started the season on a high is now struggling to get anything fruitful from his bowling. But, he is a good spinner and will try to make a comeback strongly.

It seems like Harshal Patel is not a professional bowler. He hasn't delivered or justified his price yet and no one expecting anything from him. PBKS are just playing him because they paid a huge money for him at the Auction. His poor form or whatever is just going on and on. Kagiso Rabada is the main strength of Punjab's bowling unit and the Proteas seamer will have a tough task against RR's strong batting line-up. Arshdeep Singh picked up four wickets in the last game and is performing in one or another game this season so Punjab will expect something similar from the left-handed pacer.
Rajasthan Royals
RR will continue with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler at the top. Jaiswal needs to bat well and return to form as soon as possible. Jos Buttler played a brilliant knock against RCB but other than that, this has been a poor season for Buttler so far. Buttler can win matches on his own and he needs to bring some consistency in his game. Rajasthan's middle order is solid. At number 3, Sanju Samson has been great for his side. He has led from the front, scoring runs and making good decisions for his team. Riyan Parag is the best player in Rajasthan's setup and he is scoring runs for fun right now.
Hetmyer was very good for RR in the IPL 2022 but in 2023, he didn't have a good season. In 2024, Hetmyer has not gotten many chances. Dhruv Jurel has struggled as a lower middle-order batsman and he hasn't got a lot of chances either. Shubham Dubey is coming on as an impact player for RR in the last few matches. He hasn't had enough opportunities to perform but he can bring stability to the setup with his all-round skills.
Ravichandran Ashwin is having an underrated season. The experienced RR spinner is helping the side both as a batter and a bowler. The 37-year-old can bowl economical spells from his end which helps bowlers at the other end to take wickets. Ashwin is also having a good season as a batter too. He has scored some important runs here and there for his side.
Trent Boult and Nandre Burger will continue to lead the pace attack. In the middle overs, RR has a lot of options. Yuzvendra Chahal has been at hisl best. He is scalping wickets from his end without conceding a lot of runs. Kuldeep Sen is an option to bowl in the middle overs if anyone between Chahal or Ashwin having a poor day. Avesh Khan is bowling in the death overs who started the season on high but struggling in the last few matches.
