There were already rumours already spreading on the Internet about Ravichandran Ashwin's inclusion in the World Cup Squad after Axar Patel sustained an injury. On Thursday BCCI confirmed the news. They have now replaced Axar Patel with the experienced Ashwin for the ODI World Cup 2023 squad on the deadline day of the final team submissions for the tournament.

Ashwin replaced Axar Patel in the India's World Cup Squad
Dravid backed Ashwin ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023. Marking a return after nearly 20 months in ODIs, Ashwin returned with four wickets from two games against Australia in the recently concluded series. He also shone with an impressive figure of three for 41 in the second ODI at the Holkar Stadium in Indore last weekend.
Axar Patel has failed to recover in time for the World Cup after sustaining a left quadriceps strain during India's Asia Cup Super Four encounter against Bangladesh. The spin-bowling all-rounder missed the final of the Asia Cup as a result.
Ashwin has featured in 115 ODIs and has 155 wickets to his name at an average of over 33 and an economy under 5. The 37-year-old will be featuring in his third and most probably the last World Cup after the 2011 and 2015 editions.
