India won that Test by an innings and 222 runs and after this, India won the second Test as well by 238 runs. Rohit's tenure as India's Test captain couldn't have started in a better way.

Rohit Sharma's captaincy record in away Tests
Under the leadership of Rohit, India has played only five Test matches away from home. Rohit led India for the first time in Tests outside India in the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia in June 2023, which was held at the Kennington Oval in London, UK. India had to face a crushing defeat and the Australian team won by 209 runs.
