Bangladesh opener Soumya Sarkar has broken legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar's 14-year-old record during the second ODI match against New Zealand. Soumya played a 169-run knock in just 151 balls with a strike rate of 111.92. His inning consists of 22 fours and 2 sixes. This knock helped him to surpass Tendulkar's milestone for the highest runs in ODIs by a player from the sub-continent in New Zealand.

In 2009, Sachin Tendulkar played an unbeaten 163-run knock against the Kiwis in Christchurch. Soumya Sarkar also scored the highest run by a Bangladesh cricketer in an away ground in the ODI format.
Soumya Sarkar was the lone warrior as no other players could cross the 50-run mark in the first inning. Wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim (45 runs) played a important role in the middle order and helped Bangladesh put 291 on the scoreboard.
In the run chase, New Zealand needed to make 292 runs in 50 overs to register their second consecutive win in the three-match ODI series. New Zealand got off to a flying start with both openers going aggressively and getting the boundaries with ease.
Rachin Ravindra was looking solid but was dismissed trying to attack even more. After that, Henry Nicholls joined Will Young and both of them kept ticking the scoreboard nicely by rotating the strike and also getting the boundaries at regular intervals.
Except for a couple of half-chances, they didn't give anything away, but still, both of them missed out on their respective centuries as Young made 89 while Nicholls scored 95. They already got the Kiwis in a solid position and Tom Latham and Tom Blundell ensured they finished the job on their hands. They made this chase look like a cakewalk to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series and seal it.
