SRH vs GT gets washed out: Who qualified? Who got eliminated? IPL 2024 playoffs equations

Another match in Indian Premier League 2024 got washed out as Sunriseres Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans shared a point each in Hyderabad. With this one point, SRH qualified for the playoffs while Delhi Capitals got eliminated from the tournament.

Here are the IPL 2024 playoff situations after the SRH vs GT match

    1. SRH qualified for the playoffs

SRH qualified for the IPL 2024 playoffs after SRH vs GT match washed out - sportzpoint.com

Sunrisers Hyderabad qualified for the IPL 2024 with 15 points in 7 games and a net run rate of 0.406. With 7 wins, 5 defeats and 1 washed-out game, the Pat Cummins-led team are currently at number three in the points table.

    2. Delhi Capitals also eliminated from IPL 2024

Even after three good wins in the last five games, Rishabh Pant's Delhi Capitals are now officially eliminated from the IPL 2024 race. In 14 matches, they managed to earn 14 points with 7 wins and 7 defeats. After, SRH's entry to the top four, Delhi are now out from IPL 2024.

    3. RCB vs CSK is now a knockout match for RCB

RCB will now have to win their last match against CSK to qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs. Not only that, they will have to win by 18 runs or chase within 18.1 overs (assuming a first innings score of 200). If that match goes washed out as well, RCB will be eliminated from the tournament.

    4. Chance for RR to finish second

Rajasthan Royals now can finish in second place if they can beat table topper Kolkata Knight Riders in their final game of the league stage. With 18 points in 14 games, they will secure their place at the number two position.

    Pitch and weather report

Chepauk never used to be a flat deck with lots of runs, and low-scoring matches in Chennai used to be CSK's strength over the years. However, the ground has already seen three of the eight innings go over 200 runs this season. With 200+ scored in the last game at the ground, we can expect runs on the pitch, which can favour SRH with their attacking mindset.

As per the weather reports, the sky will be clear and sunny. The temperature will be around 29-30 degrees Celcius. Humidity will be around 82%, and no rain is forecasted in the next 24 hours.

Shivam Dube and Ruturaj Gaikwad have been the top run-getters for CSK in IPL 2024. Image | BCCI

After winning three games at their den, Ruturaj Gaikwad's Chennai Super Kings were halted by Lucknow Super Giants in Chepauk, and not only that, they lost the reverse fixture in Lucknow. So, a defeat against SRH would mean they will lose their place in the points table. However, they back a punch better than anyone in their home.

Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has looked good and has been their best batter with 349 runs. Shivam Dube follows him on the list with 311 runs but with a greater impact and strike rate. Dube's striking ability at the end and middle overs has been extraordinary this season, and CSK will bank on him again against SRH.

However, Ajinkya Rahane will be under the scanner after not providing any impactful inning in IPL 2024. Rahane, who had a solid IPL 2023, has not found his rhythm yet. Though CSK team management has been persisting with him and sent him to open the inning, he has failed as an opener too

    Matheesha Pathirana - sportzpoint.com
Matheesha Pathirana has taken 11 wickets in 5 games in IPL 2024. Image | BCCI

In bowling, Mustafizur Rahman and Matheesha Pathirana have been their best bowlers in the tournament. Though the Bangladeshi speedster could not defend 17 runs in the last over in the previous game, CSK will have faith in him to do the job this time. But, with SRH's power game in mind, CSK will need Deepak Chahar to take wickets with the new ball.

Abhishek Sharma has been in tremendous form for SRH this season. Image | BCCI

SRH's winning run broke in the last game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru when they could not chase 207 at home. But, they certainly do not look like a team to change their approach, and if the pitch allows them to go "bang-bang", they will go for it.

Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma's opening pair has been one of the most lethal duos of the tournament. Alongside them, Heinrich Klaasen has been in solid knick too.

RCB, in the last game, proved that with spin upfront, SRH can be forced into uncomfortable positions. If CSK throw Moen Ali in, it will be interesting to see how Sharma and Head tackle him.

Pat Cummins and T Natarajan have been the pick of the bowlers for SRH. Image | BCCI

Though SRH have been part of many high-scoring games, both captain Pat Cummins and T Natarajan have been very good with the ball in hand. Pat, especially with his variations, has found a new "mojo" to his bowling now. Jaydev Undakat's three-for in the last match will boost his confidence as well.

If the wicket tends to grip a bit, SRH can turn to Washington Sundar and Shahbaz Ahmed alongside Aiden Markram.

    Possible lineup

CSK: Ruturaj Gaikwad (C), Ajinkya Rahane, Daryl Mitchell, Ravindra Jadeja, Shivam Dube, Moeen Ali, MS Dhoni (wk), Deepak Chahar, Tushar Deshpande, Mustafizur Rahman, Matheesha Pathirana

Impact players: Shardul Thakur, Sameer Rizvi

SRH: Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen (wk), Abdul Samad, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Shahbaz Ahmed, Pat Cummins (C), Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jaydev Unadkat, Mayank Markande

Impact players: T Natarajan, Rahul Tripathi
