T20 Leagues champions in men's cricket in 2024: IPL to Hundred; here are all the champions

Over the years, the popularity of the T20 cricket format has risen quite steeply, and the reason, you already know. Due to this, different regions around the globe started introducing different T20 leagues based on the same format, and objective of catering to both local and global fans. 

If we do a rough estimate, there have been nearly 90 T20 leagues in the past 20 years. However, not all were able to sustain and reach the level of fame as expected. But at the same time, many have exceeded it like IPL, The Hundred, Big Bash League, PSL, etc. Here are all T20 leagues champions in men's cricket in the 2024 season.

IPL | KKR

IPL aka Indian Premiere League is one of the most popular franchise-based professional T20 leagues in the world. Kolkata Knight Riders won the IPL 2024 title, clinching the trophy for the third time. They had defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets in the final. KKR had previously won the IPL titles in 2012 and 2014 under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir. 

Shreyas Iyer-led KKR defeated SRH with the help of Venkatesh Iyer's unbeaten half-century after a strong performance by the bowlers led by Andre Russell. The star player was Mitchell Starc whose excellent bowling earned him the Man of the Match award. The team performed brilliantly with both ball and bat in the final played at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai and did not allow the team led by Pat Cummins to dominate at any time. 

Having lost the toss, KKR produced a clinical effort with the ball to dismiss SRH for 113, the lowest-ever total in an IPL title clash. KKR chased down the target of 114 with as many as 57 balls to spare. Venkatesh Iyer remained not out on 52 off 26 balls.

Big Bash League | Brisbane Heat 

Brisbane Heat has won one of the most popular T20 leagues, the Big Bash League 2024 title. Brisbane have claimed their first Big Bash title in 11 years after their boys lifted the Heat to a 54-run win over the Sydney Sixers in the final.

In the title match, pacer Spencer Johnson made an impact by bowling brilliantly for Brisbane. Johnson spent 26 runs in 4 overs took 4 wickets and prevented the opposition team from crossing the victory line. 

Brisbane Heat, who came to bat first, put 166 runs on the board for 8 wickets in 20 overs. Opener Josh Brown played the biggest innings of 53 runs for the team. Sydney Sixers, chasing the target, were all out for 112 runs in 17.3 overs. In this way, Brisbane Heat won the match by 54 runs.

PSL | Islamabad United 

Islamabad United won a fifth straight match to claim the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL) title with a two-wicket win against the Multan Sultans. With this win, Islamabad became the first team to clinch three PSL titles. The team also won the title in the 2016 and 2018 seasons. Lahore Qalandars (2022 and 2023) is the only other team with multiple PSL titles.

In a thrilling finale at the National Stadium in Karachi, the match came down to the last ball, with Hunain Shah hitting the last-ball boundary to secure the win for United.

Multan was restricted to 159-9 after Islamabad allrounder Imad Wasim grabbed 5-23 and captain Shadab Khan picked up 3-32. Islamabad’s chase got a great start from opener Martin Guptill, who stumbled in the middle, then got a great finish from Wasim, 19 not out, and Naseem, 17. Islamabad reached 163-8 to add to its title.

CPL | GAW

In the final of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024, the Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) defeated the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) by nine wickets to clinch their maiden CPL title. 

Winning the toss and opting to bowl, the Guyana side made an outstanding performance with the ball, restricting their opponents to a mere 94 runs in 18.1 overs. 

Chasing the target, Saim Ayub smashed 52 runs off 41 deliveries, including five towering sixes. Shai Hope and Keemo Paul provided valuable support with their respective contributions of 32 and 11 runs. GAW achieved the target in just 14 overs, with Ayub leading the charge.

BPL | Fortune Barishal

Tamim Iqbal-led Fortune Barishal won the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024 after beating 4-time champions Comilla Victorians by 6 wickets in the final.

In the big final, captain Tamim Iqbal (39 off 26) and Kyle Mayers (46 off 30) guided their team to a six-wicket win chasing a target of 155.

Batting first, the Victorians scored 154 for 6 in 20 overs. In the second innings, Tamim Iqbal and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (29) made a 76-run partnership in just eight overs to give Barishal a solid start. Captain Tamim Iqbal departed for 39 off 26, before Kyle Mayers scored 46 runs off 30 balls to push Victorians completely out of the match.

LPL | Jaffna Kings

Jaffna Kings won the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2024 after beating Galle Marvels by nine wickets in the final. Jaffna also won their fourth title in five seasons and the only time they missed out was in 2023. 

Rilee Rossouw was their star performer against Galle after he smashed his eighth T20 hundred. He scored 106 not out off 53 balls. 

Batting first, the Galle Titans scored 184 runs in 20 overs, losing six wickets and Jaffna Kings chased down the target in just 15.4 overs to clinch the victory in the final. Rossouw was named the player of the tournament and also won the player of the match award.

SA20 | SEC

Sunrisers Eastern Cape won back-to-back SA20 titles after an emphatic 89-run victory over Durban’s Super Giants in the SA20 2024 final. 

After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, the defending champion Sunrisers scored a total of 204 for 3 on the board. Super Giants never looked likely to chase down their target as they slipped to 69 for six, with seamer Marco Jansen claiming 5-30 as the Durban side were bowled out for 115.

Marco Jansen's exceptional bowling figures of 5/30 in 4 overs contributed to Sunrisers Eastern Cape's win. Player of the Match was awarded to Tom Abell for his good batting display.

Super Smash | Auckland Aces

Auckland Aces won the Super Smash 2024 title after the match was rained off.  The washout gives Auckland the title for the fifth time and the first since 2016.

Finishing at the top of the table proved beneficial to the Auckland team in the end, as they were declared winners despite the possibility of a result. Their opponents the Canterbury Kings had reached 133/2 after 14.5 overs before the weather front arrived from the west, forcing players off the field.

This marks the first time the Aces have won the Super Smash since 2015/16 and their first at a home final since 2011/12.

ILT20 | MI Emirates

MI Emirates had won the title of the second edition of UAE International League T20 (ILT20) in 2024 by defeating Dubai Capitals by 45 runs in the final at Dubai International Stadium.

MI Emirates’s skipper Nicholas Pooran and Andre Fletcher’s half-centuries produced the highest total (208 runs) this season. In response, the Dubai Capitals team could score only 163 runs at the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs.

Pooran played a captain's knock by smashing 53* off just 37 balls and was named the Player of The Match.

Global T20 | Toronto Nationals

Toronto Nationals defeated Montreal Tigers by eight wickets and in the process claimed the 2024 Global T20 trophy. 

With three wins and three losses, the Nationals had just about made the playoffs in fourth position, with 7 points. With luck and big-game players stepping up at the right time, they were able to cruise to victory and lift the trophy. 

Chasing a target of 97, the Nationals lost their captain Munro early for a two-ball duck, with Azmatullah Omarzai picking up the wicket. With 85 runs required off the remaining 108 balls, USA international Andries Gous's unbeaten half-century (58*), along with South Africa international Rassie Van der Dussen (30*) put together a strong partnership to guide their team to an eight-wicket win.

MLC | Washington Freedom

Washington Freedom won the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2024 by defeating San Francisco Unicorns (SFU) by a huge margin of 96 runs. 

With complete domination in batting, bowling, and fielding, Washington Freedom led by Smith and coached by Ricky Ponting won the second edition of Major League Cricket. 

Chasing 208, the San Francisco Unicorns lost their top order in the first five overs as Marco Jansen sent back both openers in Jake Fraser-McGurk and Finn Allen early. The Washington bowlers gave no room for San Francisco batters to open their arms as they ran through their batting line-up, bowling them out for just 111 runs and clinching their first-ever MLC Title.

The Hundred | Oval Invincibles

Oval Invincibles had become back-to-back champion of The Hundred with a 17-run victory over Southern Brave at Lord’s. 

With Brave set a target of 148 for victory, the game was in the balance before three wickets in six balls from Saqib Mahmood ripped the energy out of the run-chase and saw Invincibles become the first team to register four trophies across the men’s and women’s competitions. 

The Invincibles scored 147-9 with Southern Brave finishing on 130-7.
