Team India won the one-off test match against Sri Lanka in Chandigarh in November 1990 by an inning and 8 runs. After batting first, India scored 288 runs and then bowled out Sri Lanka for just 82 runs in the first inning with the help of Venkatapathy Raju's 6/12 spell. India triggered the follow-on and Sri Lanka could only manage to score 198 runs in the second inning.
The four-match test series between India and England in 2021 was a low-scoring series. Both teams scored several low scores in it. England's lowest total against India came during the third test in Ahmedabad. They scored 112 in the first innings and then could only manage to put up 82 in the second innings. Axar Patel took 6/38 and 5/32 in the game to help India win the match by ten wickets.
The third-lowest total against India in Test Cricket was scored by the Proteas in Nagpur during South Africa's 2015 tour to India. South Africa were bundled out for only 79 runs in their first innings. Ravi Ashwin (5/32) and Ravindra Jadeja (4/33) bowled fiery spell for India as the hosts won that game by 124 runs.
The second-lowest total against India in tests was registered by New Zealand. New Zealand came to India for a two-match test series in 2021. In second game of the series at Wankhede Stadium, India scored 325 runs. In reply, New Zealand were bundled out for 62 runs. Ravi Ashwin ended with figures of 4/8 in that inning. India won that game by 372 runs. This was India's highest win margin in test cricket. In the same match, New Zealand's Ajaz Patel took 10 wickets against India in the first inning but that went in vain for sure.
The lowest inning total against India in test cricket came in the first test match for India in 2024 and the second and final test match against South Africa. In Cape Town, South Africa won the toss and decided to bat first. But that decision didn't go in their favour. India bowled the Proteas out for just 55 runs in 23.2 overs after Mohammed Siraj registered his career-best figures of 6/15.
