Kohli took the decision of stepping down as the Test captain after losing in 3-match Test series against South Africa. Virat started his journey as the Test captain of the Indian team in 2014 after MS Dhoni stepped down in the middle of the series against Australia. He took the team from the No. 7 rank to the No.1 test team today. Also, he has the third-highest win percentage in test cricket of 58.82% after Ricky Ponting and Steve Waugh. Kohli is undoubtedly one of the most successful Test captains with some impressive records.

Just a few months back, he also stepped down as the T20 Captain. Later, he had to step down as the ODI captain as the selectors wanted only 1 captain for the limited-overs format.

After his announcement, the BCCI congratulated and praised him for his achievements and contributions.
