Delhi Capitals are not just stopping. They thrashed UP Warriorz and clinch their second victory in a row in the inaugural WPL edition. UP Warriorz did make wonders in their first match against Gujarat but they looked shaky in front of Delhi's pride & confidence. This is just Meg Lanning's era and the others are living in it. T20 world Cup Victory and now dominating with her co in the WPL 2023, is just astonishing. Delhi Capitals put up 211 on the board, thanks to Lanning's 72, Jemimah's 34*, and Jess Jonassen's 42*. UP Warriorz fell down easily in front of them. Tahila Mcgrath(90*) counter-attacked them with big hits as She remained not out till the last ball but failed to chase down the total with the lack of support from the other end. Let's go through the match report of the WPL 2023 match between Delhi Capitals & UP Warriorz.
WPL 2023 Match Report: Delhi Capitals vs UP Warriorz
UP Warriorz skipper Alyssa Healy won the toss & elected to bowl first. Capitals Leader Meg Lanning once again performed so well as Delhi got a great start. She made 72 runs in 20 deliveries with 10 fours and 3 sixes. Shafali Verma & Marizanne Kapp couldn't perform as they did in their last match but Jemimah Rodrigues (34 of 22) did play a big part with Lanning.
Alice Capsey did her job with a small cameo but the showstopper was Jess Jonassen. 3 sixes & 3 fours in the death overs, with a strike rate of 200+, she made 42 runs in 20 deliveries. Rain delayed the match during the 9-10th over. It looked like overs will be shortened but it soon stopped and Delhi got all the 20 overs they needed to put up a huge total of 211 runs.
UP Warriorz went down to the chase and lost early wickets. Shweta Sehrawat & Kiran Navgire both returned to their dugout without contributing so much to the game. Skipper Alyssa Healy looked confident as she was just setting herself on the pitch but this was just Jess Jonassen's day. She lost her wicket for 24 runs and UP fell into huge trouble. Deepti Sharma and Devika Baidya also didn't perform so well and the responsibility to reach a respected total came in the shoulder of the No 1 T20 batter in the World, Tahila Mcgrath. A fighting half-century from the Aussie Warrior. She tried her best to keep the hopes alive but she just didn't get support from the other end. Mcgrath remained not out till the last ball and scored 90* runs in just 50 deliveries including 11 fours & 4 sixes. Delhi Capitals won by 42 runs and continue their domination in the inaugural edition of WPL.
