An official said on Tuesday that seasoned cricketer Wriddhiman Saha will join the Tripura squad as a player-cum-mentor. The 38-year Test veteran has already received the Cricket Association of Bengal's NOC (No Objection Certificate).

He is anticipated to represent Tripura in Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy games. Saha, who will turn 38 in October, decided to quit Bengal after CAB joint secretary Debabrata "Debu" Das claimed that the seasoned goalie fabricates absences from state-sponsored domestic matches.

"We have had talks with Saha and he has agreed to play for the state. He will also act as a mentor for the senior team to motivate the players." 

Kishore Das, the joint secretary of the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA), said to PTI

Saha's considerable expertise in domestic and international cricket, according to Das, would be extremely advantageous to the team's players. 

"It is not yet finalized whether he will be made the captain of the team. This will be decided later."

An angry Saha demanded an unequivocal apology from Das, which he did not receive. Then Das went to England as the Indian team's manager. He had promised to never harbor resentment at Bengal and to stand ready to step up if called upon in the future.

Wriddhiman Saha made his maiden appearance against Hyderabad in 2007. Since then he has played in 122 first-class and 102 List A matches. He has also participated in nine ODIs and 40 Tests for India.

Saha has amassed 317 runs in 11 innings at a strike rate of 122.39 for Gujarat Titans. Hardik-led Gujarat Titans have won the IPL 2022 title in their maiden season.
