WTC Final is the most watched match in World Test Championship Series: ICC

According to ICC the WTC Final had a a total global audience of 177 million. Live viewership of the Final was 130.6 million.

Cricket is one of the popular sports now in the world. Fights to broadcast even some bi-lateral series proves that there is some huge economic growth in cricket broadcasting. To save the test match ICC had implemented the World Test Championship among the best test teams in the world. Now, as per ICC, the WTC Final was the most watched match in the whole championship that went for two years.

India vs New Zealand was the all awaited WTC Final match played at Southampton in England. Both teams were full of international stars. Moreover, the trophy wait for both Kane Williamson and Virat Kohli made the final more engaging even before the start.

According to ICC the WTC Final had a a total global audience of 177 million. Also, the live viewership of the WTC Final was 130.6 million across 89 territories.

This speaks the volume for the Test cricket. Though the WTC Final was rain effected but result on the last day meant the final will be more interesting. Perhaps, the extra reserve day helped that cause as well.

Star Sports and national broadcaster Doordarshan accounting for a whopping 94.6 per cent of the total consumption in the WTC final. In fact, Star's idea to broadcast the WTC Final in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada worked very well for them.

"The viewership data for broadcast and digital coverage of the ICC World Test Championship Final presents a really heartening picture, showing strong consumption across territories and languages as well as formats", ICC Chief Commercial Officer Anurag Dahiya said.

The ICC always strives to give the best possible viewership experience and will continue to invest in resources that enhance the viewing pleasure and engagement of our fans.

Not only India, but New Zealand contributed hugely considering a very smaller country than India. Even with time differences, 200,000 Blackcaps supporters stayed up at night to see their team win the Test Championship.

ICC also stated that "Sky Sports recorded the highest-rated match in the 2019-2021 WTC cycle for a match not involving hosts England. And the Reserve Day was also the most watched day of a non-England Test match since 2015", via PTI.

ICC Facebook page on a single day, with 65.7 million individual views across the 24-hour period on the reserve day of the WTC Final. Not only that, ICC's OTT platform had nearly  665,100 views in the final. The Youtube and Twitter streams took the WTC Final's video viewership to nearly 515 million.
