Scoring a Double ton in limited overs cricket is not an easy job, & that too at an early age. A young batsman is always under pressure when he is representing his team on a big stage. A batsman needs proper skill, patience, focus, and ability to build the innings well. Some batters scored double centuries but had to reach their prime to achieve that milestone. But there are three batters who reached that milestone and added this to their record book at a very young age. Let’s go through the list of the youngest to score ODI double ton in Cricket History.
Youngest to Score ODI double ton :
1. Amelia Kerr | New Zealand | 17 years & 243 days
Amelia Kerr is already one of the best all-rounders in Women’s limited-overs Cricket. The New Zealand Star was famous even before playing for New Zealand when 14-year-old Kerr’s bowling video went viral & then there is no looking back. She made her debut in One-day Internationals vs Pakistan in 2016. Opening the innings In a match against Ireland, Amelia Kerr blasted her first ODI double ton at the age of only 17 years. She scored 232* runs in just 145 balls by hitting 31 fours & 2 sixes and became the youngest male or female to score a double ton in ODI cricket history. She also took five wickets in the exact match.
2. Shubman Gill | India | 23 years & 132 days
Shubman Gill is making records for fun at this time. He is often compared with the greats like Sachin Tendulkar & Virat Kohli for his style of play. He is even considered the true successor of Virat Kohli. But he is proving everyone wrong by showing that he has come to make his own empire in Cricket. Shubman Gill was the vice-captain of the Indian U-19 team in the 2018 World Cup, which they later won deservedly. Gill scored 372 runs in the competition. He made his ODI international debut for Indian Senior Cricket Team against New Zealand in 2019. Opening the Innings against the Kiwis in the first ODI on 18th Jan 2023, Gill scored his first ODI double ton & became the second youngest player to achieve that milestone. He also completed his 1000 ODI runs in just 19 innings – the fastest by an Indian Batsman.
3. Ishan Kishan | India | 24 years & 145 days
Ishan Kishan is a perfect example of an attacking Opener in limited-overs Cricket. He made his One-day Internationals debut for India against Sri Lanka in 2021. He did not get a great start in his career, but slowly he is improving & progressing toward his success. Opening the innings In a match against Bangladesh in 2022, Ishan Kishan scored his first double ton & became the third youngest player to achieve that milestone.
