AFC Asian Cup 2024: Australia vs India Highlights | India starts their campaign with a disappointing loss after Irvine and Bos score for Australia in their 2-0 victory

The full-time whistle blows in the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium. Australia starts the campaign with three points as they beat the Blue Tigers comfortably. It was the Aussies who dominated the match right from the start and eventually got the better of the Indian side with two goals. India created almost nothing in the game, a disappointing performance from Igor Stimac's men in the campaign opener.

Substitution for India: IN- Vikram, Mahesh; OUT- Chhangte, Chhetri | 89'

Fornaroli unleashes a clever ball for McGree. It was a race between Gurpreet and Mcgree, which the Indian won.

Liston goes for a first-time shot from miles out. The shot however is collected by Ryan collects easily.

India presses high. Australia lost the ball at the back and the backpass had too much power heading through to goal. Ryan was way off his line but the ball changed its path in the end and Ryan recovered to stop it from going in.

Jordan Bos scores with his first touch of the game after coming on as a substitute. McGree shows good strength to make an excellent run and get inside the India box. He finds Bos with a perfect pass and the latter doubles the lead with a clinical finish.

Chhangte gets the ball and tries to get past his marker on the left touchline. Ryan came up to clear the ball but retreated at the last moment, leaving his goal empty.

There was a chance for Chhangte to shoot from distance into the empty net, but he shot it wide.

Chance for India as Suresh gets the ball. He has options but goes for a long-distance shot himself. The shot is so weak and it goes straight to the keeper.

A cross from the left and Gurpreet comes out to collect the ball. He gets the touch but cannot hold on to the ball and it falls straight to Irvine. He slots the ball inside the net and Australia are in the lead now.

India needs to try and create openings if they want to achieve something from this match

Australia has dominated the game so far but India hasn't conceded yet. They are fighting shoulder to shoulder but how far they can go with this? India has to create something if they want to gain something from the match as defending Australia through the 90 minutes isn't going to be a safe solution.

The second-half between India and Australia gets underway at the Ahmad bin Ali stadium. 

Goodwin tries to slip a through ball to Irvine inside the box but Gurpreet reads the danger and comes off his line to collect the ball.

Metcalfe goes down near the Indian box and Australia looks for a foul. But the referee waves for play to continue.

Australia is enjoying the lion's share of possession. It was expected from the start, but India have done so well until now.

Goodwin delivers a beautiful cross from a free-kick. The Australians rush towards the goal to get in a header. But Manvir reaches the ball first and clears the ball.

India absorbs the pressure from an Australian attack and the clearance finds Chhangte. he could have started a counter-attack but, Chhangte takes too long to release the ball and he is dispossessed.

Gurpreet collects the ball and sees the Aussie goalie way off his line. He immediately goes for a shot from inside his box but it hasn't got the perfect power to send the ball to the opposite net.

Jhingan clears the ball with a brilliant header but gets injured from the concussion by an Aussie player. He is down on the ground, receiving medical attention.

Australia is slowly making moves into the Indian final third now.

The first half of the AFC Asian Cup Group B match between India and Australia is underway.

Suresh provides an excellent through ball to Chhangte on the left flank. Chhangte goes for an early delivery but the ball just misses the head of Sunil Chhetri.

India loses the ball in the final third. Australia tries to breach the backline but Subhasish Bose is there to intercept the danger.

"We've come here for a reason - to win this Asian Cup. It's the only tournament that we probably can win. It is difficult, but we're coming here to Qatar where we have a lot of familiarity, all the boys love coming here. You've got to reach for the stars and have high expectations, we'll do that right from the start," coach Graham Arnold said ahead of their AFC Asian Cup opener.

Graham Arnold stresses the importance of taking it one game at a time but insists the #Socceroos are here to win.

"We definitely didn't come here to defend on the edge of the box. We're going to go out there and try to enjoy football, as we did in the last four years. India is set to start their AFC Asian Cup 2023 campaign as the Blue Tigers will face their toughest opponent, World No. 25 Australia in the opening Group B match at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium. India is the lowest ranked in Group B, and getting something from this match could be a huge achievement.
