What happened in the game?

Unai Emery's Aston Villa lost to Mikel Arteta's Arsenal on Matchday 2 of the English Premier League 2024/25 season at the Villa Park, Aston in Birmingham.

Both sides had their chances but the home side couldn't take those while Arsenal got the most of them. Leandro Trossard proved to be an important asset once again when he scored the opener for his side in the second half after coming in for Martinelli.

Thomas Partey then doubled the lead and it was enough for the Gunners to take all three points from this difficult away fixture. Watkins missed two huge chances for Villa otherwise it could have been something different. The best thing for Arteta is that they kept a clean sheet against a team which caused them many difficulties last season.
