Bournemouth vs Man City: City thrash 4-1 to keep up with Arsenal at the top

Bournemouth vs Man City: City put a frustrating week behind them to brush Bournemouth aside and keep the pressure on

Bournemouth vs Man City: Manchester City put a frustrating week behind them to brush Bournemouth aside and keep the pressure on Premier League leaders Arsenal.

Having twice surrendered leads to draw with Nottingham Forest domestically and RB Leipzig in the Champions League, City never looked in danger of doing so again once Julian Alvarez poked them ahead.

Erling Haaland maintained his goal-a-game ratio since his summer arrival by tucking home a close-range second for his 27th top-flight goal of the season to end a relatively lean spell of one in six games.

Phil Foden punished Philip Billing's wayward pass to add City's third before half-time, and Bournemouth's misery was completed after the break when Chris Mepham deflected an Alvarez volley into his own net.

After the table-topping Gunners won at Leicester earlier on Saturday, City's victory reduced Arsenal's cushion back to two points, although the leaders still enjoy the luxury of a game in hand.

Battling Bournemouth deservedly claimed a late consolation via Jefferson Lerma but were outclassed overall, and defeat leaves them 19th after three other teams in the bottom six picked.

Premier League 2024-25: How much more points Liverpool need to win the title?

Liverpool have firm hands on the Premier League 2024-25 trophy following their 2-0 victory over Manchester City on Sunday. How much more points Liverpool need to win the title?

Liverpool achieved a significant breakthrough toward winning the 2024-25 Premier League title, following their 2-0 triumph over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai netted two goals in the first half to secure a 2-0 lead at the break, as the Reds comfortably won the game, adding three more points to their tally.

Liverpool were handed a huge boost after an injury-stricken Arsenal suffered a shocking 0-1 defeat against West Ham United at home on February 22nd, 2025.

Arsenal are now placed second at the table, having accumulated 53 points in 26 games. Liverpool, on the other hand, will now enjoy an 11-point lead at the top with 64 points in 27 matches

Liverpool fans have almost started celebrating their potential Premier League title after five years, raising a question as well, how many more points Liverpool need to win the title?

The equation to the coveted Premier League title for Liverpool

Arsenal, the second-placed team have 12 matches left to play in the league this season. If the Mikel Arteta-coached side can win every other remaining match, the maximum number of points they can achieve is 89.

Interestingly, the Arne Slot-led team could reach the same total in just nine games if they win their next nine games consecutively. For context, Liverpool have 11 more games to play this season.

The Gunners and the Reds will also meet on May 10th, the 36th matchday of the season. This could be a face-off that can potentially turn out as the title-decider only if the point gap between Liverpool and Arsenal decreases.

Liverpool will face the fifth-placed Newcastle United in a midweek Premier League clash on February 27th, whereas Arsenal will take on the third-placed Nottingham Forest on the same day.

However, if Arsenal start losing more points considering their continuous injury woes, Liverpool may clinch the coveted title even before their encounter against The Gunners.

After this match-week, we will head onto a very congested schedule for both teams, including the UEFA Champions League knock-outs as well. However, will it be Arne Slot or Mikel Arteta who is going to lift their first-ever career PL title after the league concludes on 25 May?

The fans of both teams must keep an eye on the upcoming fixtures to decide further calculations or start celebrations as early as possible!

Why does Bruno Guimarรฃes wear Jersey no. 39? Here is the emotional story behind it

Bruno Guimarรฃes has worn Jersey no. 39 for every club he has played in. Sportz Point presents the emotional story behind the Brazilian midfielder's preference for choosing this certain number.

Why does Bruno Guimarรฃes wear Jersey no. 39? Here is the emotional story behind it-sportzpoint.com

Bruno Guimarรฃes is one of the most talented and prolific midfielders in the world football right now. The 27-year-old Brazilian currently plays for the Premier League side Newcastle United, where he established himself as one of the best midfielders in recent years with his sublime ball-playing ability and playmaking skills.

One of the most interesting things about Guimarรฃes is that he wears an unusual number for a first-team central midfielder like him. Instead of the traditional four, six, or eight numbers for midfielders, the Brazilian wears the number 39 shirt.

Even more interestingly, the Brazilian has worn the 39-numbered Jersey in every club he has played in his senior club career so far, showing his intense attachment to this certain number. This surely raises a question among the fans, why does he always prefer this number?

Well, the reason behind it is very emotional and heartwarming. Guimarรฃes pays homage to his father, who endured struggles as a taxi driver to help the player grow his football career.

The emotional story behind Guimarรฃes' Jersey no. 39

(Image Source | The Players' Tribune)

Burno's father Dick Guimarรฃes used to be a taxi driver in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as the number 39 was his vehicle's despatch number.

In the famous 'The Players' Tribune', Guimarรฃes wrote an emotional article in February 2023, revealing the heart-warming reason behind his using the number so often and putting it up in his football shirts during his senior club career.

The number tells a story more beautiful than words can say. 39. I know people think itโ€™s a weird number for a footballer. But for me 39 is special โ€” no, itโ€™s more than that. It's magical. The number 39 gave me everything in life. It got me here to Newcastle. It fed me, clothed me, and paid for three-hour bus rides to pursue my dream. #039 was the dispatch number of my fatherโ€™s taxi in Rio de Janeiro.

He dived deeper into the emotional backstory, as later on he wrote:

My mother worked in a motorcycle shop. My father, of course, was a taxi driver. In Brazil, especially in Rio, this is a tough life. You work basically all day and night. But that yellow taxi kept my dream alive. Pretty much the only day I saw my father was on Saturday, when he came to watch me play football. It made me nervous, to be honest. My father was my hero. I didnโ€™t want to disappoint him. And he was quite hard on me, at first. Sometimes heโ€™d even say, 'Iโ€™m tired of seeing you lose. You can have an extra hamburger today, but only if you win.

"My journey was not a superstarโ€™s story."

Bruno Guimarรฃes pulled the emotional strings of his childhood complexities and sufferings but never overlooked the sacrifices his parents made.

I wonโ€™t lie. There were a few times that I had my bags packed. Once, I called my mom and told her to send me money for a bus ticket home. And I can hear her voice saying, โ€œStay calm. In a little while, weโ€™ll be there together. This is your dream. This is what you want.โ€

They used to drive up to see me in the taxi on weekends. Even on his day off, my dad couldnโ€™t escape the yellow taxi, number 039. For three years, I struggled at the academy. By the time I was 17, I still didnโ€™t have a professional contract. Itโ€™s crazy to think about kids like Vinicius Jr. and Endrick โ€” 16, 17 years old and โ€” they were already stars. Me, I was making backup plans to become a taxi driver like my father. I was only earning about R$400 a month, and I think my cellphone bill was R$100. If I didnโ€™t get a pro contract at 18, I had to be realistic. I didnโ€™t want my parents to be disappointed, so I lied and said that I was taking my license test because I dreamed of having a VW Beetle when I signed my contract. But really, I was working on my back-up for โ€œreal life.โ€

I was months away from becoming 039 myself, if I didnโ€™t get my break.

Bruno also recalled an emotional phone call with his father when he was loaned to Brazilian side Athletico Paranaense in Brazil.

...When I was loaned to Athletico Paranaense, I was talking to my father on the phone on the day I arrived, and I said, โ€œHey, what number do you think I should take? Iโ€™m thinking of using 97, because I was born in 1997.โ€

And he said, โ€œWhat about 39? That is more than a number. 039 gave us everything we have, Bruno. Our house, our food, our furniture, your football boots. It was all because of our taxi.โ€...
