Chelsea vs Man City Premier League 2024-25 Highlights | Haaland and Kovacic score as the Citizens start their title defence with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over the Blues

Hello and welcome to Sportz Point's coverage of the Premier League 2024-25. 

What happened in the game?

Chelsea lost to Manchester City by 2-0 on Matchday 1 at Stamford Bridge in London. City started their title defence with a hard-fought victory against the Blues. Erling Haaland provided the Citizens with the lead in the first half but Chelsea improved a lot after conceding that goal. They ended the first half on a positive note but City started the second half strongly.

Chelsea were trying everything, introducing Pedro Neto and some other newcomers. Man City didn't create any big chances in the second half but the second-half goal came following a mistake from Fofana in the 84th minute. Kovacic dropped a Man of the Match performance and to secure that award, the Croatian struck a screamer. It was enough to drop the shoulders of the Chelsea players but it was a decent performance from Enzo Maresca's side on Matchday 1.

It should have been the equalizer but unfortunately, it is not. A brilliant move from Chelsea as Palmer tried to curl the ball in from the right-hand side. It looked like a comfortable collection for Ederson at first but he failed to hold on to the delivery. Jackson anticipated it and approached the ball before shooting it in. But, as soon as it went in, the linesman waved the flag against him.
