Mohun Bagan cameback thrice in Kolkata to beat a fighting Northeast United by 4-2 in the first ISL 2023-24 game on Saturday. With this win they move to number two position in the points table with 29 points. This is their third back-to-back win in ISL after Antonio Habas Lopez took over from Juan Ferrando. Meantime, Northeast United are now in number seven position after losing another away game.

Northeast were the first team to draw blood in Kolkata as Tomi Juric found the net from the penalty spot in the sixth minute. But Mohun Bagan comeback at the stroke of half-time with Liston Colaco and Jason Cummings scoring for them. Post half-time, Juric again scored for NEUFC but the celebrations could not last long as Dimitri Petratos and Sahal Abdul Samad scored for the mariners in the difference of four minutes. Joni Kauko was adjudged the player of the match for his three assists in the match.

Mohun Bagan are back in the title race. They came back thrice to win the game in Kolkata. Joni Kauko's first game in front of the home fans was just finese. He was adjudged the player of the match for his three assists.

What a player! What a goal! Just what the doctor ordered. A left-footed rocket to match Juric on the other end. Cummings with the assist for his fellow Australian.

A thunderous strike from the Australian. A left-footer rcoket left to Vishal Kaith and it's all equal in Kolkata now. Nestor Albiach with the back-header from the a setpiece that initiated the attack for the Highlanders.

Jason Cummings gets the lead for Mohun Bagan. Dimitris' freekick was first headed away by Hector that fall on to the feet of Joni Kauko on the left and he just passes it to Cummings who was waiting for the ball to tap it in for the second goal.

Liston Colaco is the man for the Mariners. Joni Kauko passes the ball to the left after receiving ball from Sahal Abdul Samad. Liston then did the rest with a powerful right-footer past Michu. It's 1-1 in Kolkata.

Looks like Juric has twisted his ankle. He is out for the moment.

Manvir's cross from the right is blocked by Zabaco and it is another corner for the Mariners.

Liston's knuckle ball nearly went in as Michu had to jump and punch the ball over the goal.

Another chance goes begging for Mohun Bagan as Jason Cummings could not get the contact from Manvir's cross.

Young Dipendu goes shoulder to shoulder with Jithin and defeats him with pace and aggression.

Tlang, Juric, Nestor and Jithin have been great for NEUFC as Mohun Bagan finding it hard to take the ball to their half.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant are all set to host NorthEast United FC at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata to kick off the Saturday double header of the ISL 2023-24 on February 17 at 5 p.m. The Mariners are coming into this fixture after ending FC Goa's unstoppable streak in the league, that too in Fatorda. Antonio Lopez Habas would like to continue that impressive run when they welcome the Highlanders on Saturday.

Slowly but effectively, Habas and his tactics are working in MBSG. With their win against FC Goa, they have now kept clean sheets in consecutive matches for the first time in this ISL season. On the other hand, NorthEast United are coming into the game after beating East Bengal FC in a thrilling 3-2 encounter in Guwahati last Saturday. NEUFC holds a good goal-scoring record against MBSG, having found the back of the net at least once in each of their previous eight fixtures.
