UEFA Champions League 2024-25 first round highlights | Bayern score 9, Real, Villa and Juventus score 3; Liverpool comeback from behind to win

Hello and welcome to the LIVE coverage of the UEFA Champions League 2024-25 first round matches as tonight we will have eight exicting football matches in the biggest club football tournament in Europe.

With new format UEFA Champions League this season will give many unknown football clubs in Europe to stun some of the biggest names in football. With all the teams playing 8 matches; 4 in home and 4 in away, this season will surely provide more surprises and more enthralling matches.

How will the format work?

The 36 teams were drawn into four pots of 8 teams and from there on eight opponents of each teams were chosen for the league phase. Each team were given two opponents from each pot, meaning a total of eight matches for them. Each team will play one single match against a single opponent and in total will play four games at home and four at the home of their opponent.

This league phase will ensure teams play a wide range of opponents and the fans will get to see a whole new set of fixtures. 

After the first eight matches, teams ranking from 1 to 8 will qualify for the round of 16 while teams ranked between 9th and 16th will be seeded in the knockout phase play-off draw, meaning they will face a team placed 17th to 24th. The rest of the teams will be knocked out of the tournament.

Bayern now have become the first team to score nine goals in a UEFA Champions League match (excluding qualifying). Bayern previously scored nine goals in a European Cup match in 1972: Bayern 9-0 Omonia, 24/10/72, European Cup second round first leg.
