Hockey India CEO Elena Norman has decided to resign from her job on Tuesday after holding the post for almost 13 years. Norman's resignation comes days after women's team coach Janneke Schopman was unceremoniously ousted from her job at HI, citing differential treatment from shareholders.

Elena Norman has resigned from her post due to non-payment of dues for the last few months. Sources in the national federation gave this information to PTI. Accepting Elena Norman's resignation, Hockey India President and former Indian captain Dilip Tirkey expressed his gratitude towards Norman and praised her for her contribution towards the game in the country.

Tirkey said in his statement, "I would like to express my gratitude for Elena's time and dedication. Not only as the President of Hockey India but also as a former player and avid hockey enthusiast, I want to formally acknowledge and extend my sincere gratitude for her remarkable contributions over the last 12-13 years."

"Her dedication and efforts have played a pivotal role in propelling Hockey India and Indian hockey to the commendable position they hold today. I wish her great success in all her future endeavors," Tirkey added.

Elena Norman's resignation is another blow to the national federation which has not given the exact reason for her departure in its official statement. However, sources said that Norman was 'upset over non-payment of dues for the last three months and was also unhappy with the working environment.'

Elena Norman's legacy in Hockey India

During her tenure as CEO of Hockey India, Elena Norman achieved tremendous success for both the men's and women's teams. During Norman's tenure both sides achieved their best ever world rankings and also achieved unprecedented success at the Tokyo Olympics. The Indian men's team won the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games after a gap of 41 years, while the women's team finished fourth. Norman spent most of her tenure as head of Hockey India under former International Hockey Federation president Narinder Batra.
