The Indian women's hockey team is all set to start its journey under the leadership of Savita Punia.

After coming fourth in Tokyo last year, India's ladies achieved their best-ever Olympic result, narrowly missing out on a spot. The team will be led by Savita Punia, who is the most experienced in the tournament. The team will be seeking to put that experience to good use in their first major event since the Olympics.

Goalkeeper Savita will lead the squad instead of Rani Rampal, who has been on rest due to a hamstring ailment. India's expertise, according to Savita, would be crucial to the team's success in the famous quadrennial competition, which is also a qualifier for this year's FIH Women's World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Spain and the Netherlands.

In her words, "The best part about this team is that many of us have been playing together for a long time. I feel this experience and team camaraderie will give us the edge over other teams. Our main priority will be to remain focused on our game and ensure we execute the plans against each team without making errors."

Pool A includes the defending champions, as well as Japan, Malaysia, and Singapore.
