70 relay teams qualify for the Paris Olympics at World Athletics Relays Bahamas 24

World Athletics Relays Bahamas 24, which took place on 4-5 May, witnessed a thrilling action of two days as a total of 70 teams have qualified for relay events at the Paris Olympics 2024 at the Thomas A Robinson National Stadium in the Bahamas.

The program included five relays: women's 4x100m and 4x400m, men's 4x100m and 4x400m and medley 4x400m. Fourteen teams in each of the five disciplines had automatically booked places for the Paris Olympics. 

The first 40 qualified teams, eight each in five relay events, were confirmed on Sunday and the final 30 on Monday, following a second Olympic qualifying round for teams that missed out on day one.

USA broke their championship record in the mixed 4x400m on Sunday, then followed it with a dominant display in the women’s 4x400m, winning four of the five finals in Nassau. Botswana, meanwhile, became the first African nation to win a men’s sprint event at the World Relays by taking victory in the men’s 4x400m.

On the other hand, Indian men’s and women’s 4x400m relay teams qualified for the Paris Olympics after finishing second in their respective second-round heats. The Paris participation will be the eighth time for the Indian women’s 4x400m team, the first being in the 1984 Games. For the men’s 4x400m, this will be the fourth time India will be taking part in the Olympics, the first being in the 2000 Sydney Games.

The competition was particularly important as it served as the main qualifying event for the relays at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
