Archery World Cup 2024: Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Abhishek Verma ensure India's fourth medal by reaching compound mixed team final

Indian archers reached the finals of four team events at the Archery World Cup 2024. Asian Games gold medalist Jyothi is in the race for a hat-trick of medals.

The compound mixed team of Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Abhishek Verma ensured India's fourth medal on Friday by reaching the final of the Archery World Cup 2024.

Jyothi-Abhishek duo defeated Andrea Becerra and Lot Maximo Mendez Ortiz 155-151, losing only five points. Now they will face Estonia in the final on Saturday. Notably, Jyothi is also included in the women's compound team which reached the final on Wednesday.

Indian archers reached four finals

Indian archers reached the finals of four team events at the Archery World Cup 2024. Asian Games gold medalist Jyothi is in the race for a hat-trick of medals. Jyothi and Priyansh are in the race for medals after reaching the semi-finals in the compound individual category. The Indian team has reached the finals of compound men's, women's, mixed and men's recurve team events. The elimination round matches of recurve individual categories will be held today itself.

Jyothi-Abhishek's journey to the compound mixed team final 

Jyothi and Abhishek had a bye in the first round after which they scored 160 out of 160 to defeat Australia's Georgina Graham and Brandon Hawes by eight points. After this, they defeated Mariya Shkolna and Gilles Seywert of Luxembourg by 155-151. The Indian pair lost only five points from 16 arrows and entered the semi-finals.

In the compound mixed doubles semi-finals of Archery World Cup 2024, the Indians started on the backfoot after Andrea and Mendez Ortiz scored three 10s and a nine and ended the match early, 39–38. But Mexico's team slipped in the next set of arrows as Jyothi and Abhishek snatched the lead by dropping one point each. After another mistake by the Mexicans, the Indians increased their lead to three points in the last round. The Indian duo sealed the deal by scoring a perfect 40 in the fourth round.

India has sent a sixteen-member archery team of eight men and eight women for the first phase of the Archery World Cup to be held from the 23rd to the 28th of this month. Based on the performances of archers in the first two phases, the Indian team will be selected for the third phase of the World Cup in Antalya to be held from June 18 to 23. The Antalya competition will be a competition for recurve archers to qualify for the final ahead of the Paris Olympics 2024. The winners of the individual events will qualify for the Archery World Cup Finals to be held in Tlaxcala, Mexico in October
