Indian shooters have suffered a big setback on the very first day of the shooting competition at the Paris Olympics 2024. They failed to make it to any medal rounds in the 10m air rifle mixed team and men's individual event. This result is contrary to expectations because Indian shooters had performed well in many international competitions in the recent past.
Indian mixed team failed to qualify for medal match
India did not qualify for the 10-meter air rifle mixed team event. With this, India's hope of starting with a medal on the very first day has been dashed, because they had a poor start in shooting. Only the top four teams in the rankings will advance to the medal round, with the first and second-placed teams competing for the gold medal.
The two pairs of Ramita Jindal-Arjun Babuta and Elavenil Valarivan-Sandeep Singh failed to qualify for the final of the 10m air rifle mixed team qualification round at the Paris Olympics 2024 on Saturday. Ramita and Arjun scored a total of 628.7 in a series of 30 shots. The other Indian team of Elavenil and Sandeep finished 12th with 626.3 points.
China, Korea, Germany, and Kazakhstan competed in the 10-meter air rifle mixed team medal matches where China clinched gold while Korea and Kazakhstan bagged silver and Bronze respectively.

Disappointment from Sarabjot and Cheema
The Indian team had high expectations from Sarabjot Singh and Arjun Singh Cheema in the 10-meter men's shooting but they have disappointed. Both are out of the qualification round. Sarabjot stood 9th with 577 marks while Arjun stood 18th with 574 marks. To make it to the finals, both had to be in the top 8.
Now all eyes will be on Manu Bhaker and Rhythm Sangwan, who will be performing in 10m air pistol women's individual events.
