The Indian men’s rifle team won a gold medal in the 10m air rifle team event at the ISSF World Championships 2022 in Cairo on Sunday. The trio of Arjun Babuta, Kiran Ankush Jadhav, and Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil beat China 16-10 in the gold medal match to clinch India’s fifth medal.
This is Rudraksh’s second gold medal in the first world championship at the senior level. Earlier, he had also won the gold medal in the individual event in 10m rifle at the ISSF World Championships 2022.
Earlier, Team India had finished second in the qualification with a score of 628.5. While China had topped with a score of 629.4. On the other hand, the women’s team of Elavenil Valarivan, Mehuli Ghosh, and Meghana Sajjanar won the bronze medal in the 10m air rifle team event. They defeated Germany 17-11 in the bronze medal match. In the qualification, Indian women finished third with 630.0 points while Germany (628.6) finished fourth.
In the meantime, the Indian Under-17 373 basketball team created history on Sunday. They entered the Under-18 FIBA World Cup after 11 years. The team of Jaideep Rathod, Kushal Singh, Harsh Dugar and Lokendra Singh qualified for the Under-18 373 World Cup. They qualified for the final of the ongoing U-17 373 Asia Cup here. Indian youngsters sealed their place in the final of the Asia Cup. They beat Chinese Taipei 21-20 in a thrilling semi-final match. Earlier, India had defeated Jordan by a huge margin of 21-9 in the quarter-finals. India will face Japan in the final.
In addition, India’s Nischal, Nikita Kundu and Nupur Kumrawat finished 10th in the qualification with a score of 1278 in the women’s 50m rifle three position team junior event.
