World Cadet Wrestling champion Priya Malik won a silver medal in women's 76kg at World U20 Wrestling Championships 2022 in Sofia, Bulgaria on Thursday.

World U20 Wrestling Championships 2022: India's Priya wins silver medal in women's 76kg | Sportz Point

Priya lost to Ayano Moro of Japan by 1-3 in the final and finished second on the podium. Earlier, The 17-year-old Indian defeated Kazakhstan's Alina Yertostik by fall and then scored a 6-4 win over Turkey's Melisa Saritac in the quarterfinals. After that, Priya defeated U20 European champion Veronika Nyikos of Hungary by 6-5 to reach the final.

India bagged nine medals from the championship till now, including two silver and seven bronze. Priyanshi Prajapat won bronze In the 50kg division. This is her maiden medal on the world stage. Priyanshi beat Laura Ganikyzy of Kazakhstan by 8-0 in the round of 16 and defeated Aida Kerymova of Ukraine by 9-7 in the quarterfinal. However, she lost to gold medallist Umi Ito of Japan by 10-0.

On the other hand, Manju (women's 55kg) and Bhagyashree Hanumant Fand (women's 59kg) won a bronze medal but could not secure a medal after losing their respective bouts on Thursday. Sonam Malik (62kg), Antim (53kg), and Priyanka (65kg) will continue their journey in the World U20 Wrestling Championships 2022 and fight for gold.
