Odisha to host National Yogasana Sports Championships 2021-22

Odisha will be hosting India's first-ever National Yogasana Sports Championships 2021-22. Odisha is working to achieve milestones for sports.

The Indian state, Odisha gained a lot of recognition recently. Odisha became India's Sports Capital and is working relentlessly to achieve huge milestones for hockey and different indigenous sports. The next motive of the state is to become the global stage for advancing yogasana as India's Heritage Sport globally. Odisha will be hosting India's first-ever National Yogasana Sports Championships 2021-22.

In association with the Government of Orissa, National Yogasana Sports Federation (NYSF) will conduct this from 11 November-13 November 2021. More than 500 young Yogasana Sports athletes from all the sites of India will participate in this new venture.

The NYSF (recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India) is working towards creating a culture of fitness, well-being for development. Their main aim is to establish Yogasana as a global brand and a Competitive Sport with high standards. This is a step forward supporting our country's insight to make Yogasana a sport with an Olympic Roadmap.

Sports Minister, Odisha State Government, Tusharkanti Behera said shared his thoughts on this:

"Sports has always been a priority sector for Odisha Government and under the leadership of visionary Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik, the state has taken significant strides for the development and promotion of Sports. Today the world has recognized the state as India’s Sporting Capital. Our efforts are directed towards creating a holistic ecosystem that benefits sport and its athletes and nurtures a unique Indian sports culture amongst the youth. We are investing significantly in developing and upgrading our sports infrastructure."

He also added, "Yoga has become increasingly popular in recent years and is one of the most popular and trending forms of exercise in the world. This is the time for India to take yogasana as a competitive sport on the global sports stage. Inspired by the great success of nurturing Indian hockey and other indigenous sports, now we see huge potential in promoting and nurturing Yogasana as a Sport. We are confident that India’s first Physical National Yogasana Championships organized by NYSF in Bhubaneswar will be a step forward in producing the next generation of world-class yogasana athletes and talents."

Yogasana sport is now included in Khelo India Youth Games, 2021 for both male and female categories. The recognition of the Indian Government eligibles NYSF for financial assistance to conduct national championships in all the categories.
