Sushil Kumar: From Olympic podium to Delhi Police's Wanted criminal

Sushil Kumar was finally arrested by the special cell of the Delhi Police after Kumar managed to stay out of their radar for a fortnight.

Two-time Olympic medal-winning wrestler Sushil Kumar has found himself in a controversy. Sushil Kumar has been a standout wrestler for India with both international and domestic achievements for quite a long time. Delhi Police arrested wrestler Sushil Kumar from Mundka earlier on Sunday. The police arrested him in connection with the murder of former International Wrestler Sagar Dhankad. According to reports the murder took place inside Chhatrasal Stadium in North-west Delhi.

The police found out a video of the brawl in which Kumar is seen assaulting Dhankad. Upon further investigation, the police found out that, the fight took place over a flat owned by Kumar in Model Town. The deceased wrestler Sagar Dhankad previously lived there. The two wrestlers had an ongoing dispute over the rent of the flat which resulted in a fatal brawl after Dhankad abused Kumar.

Police have further found out that Kumar and his associates, Ajay, Prince, and others escaped with their phones switched off. A guy named Sonu mentioned them in the FIR. Multiple teams of Delhi Police had been raiding their possible hide-outs in Delhi, UP, Punjab, and Haryana to arrest them.

Police are probing the possibility of involvement of gangsters Kala Jathedi Larence Bishnoi gang and Neeraj Bawania behind the fight as preliminary findings have suggested that Kumar and associates had links with gangsters.

Kumar and his associates allegedly beaten Dhankad to death inside Chhatrasal Stadium. The event may have occurred on the intervening night of May 4 and 5. Although Kumar has denied his involvement in this matter.

Sushil Kumar's statement:

"They weren't our wrestlers, it happened late last night. We have informed police officials that some unknown people jump into our premises and fought. No connection of our stadium with this incident," he had told a news agency.

That night the police had also seized four vehicles from outside the stadium. Police recovered A double-barrel gun from one of the cars. Police have also recovered a double-barrel gun from Prince Dalal an associate of Kumar after arresting him.

Charges against Sushil Kumar:

Kumar has been charged under Sections 302 (murder), 365 (abduction), and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) due to his reported involvement in the assault and consequent death of international wrestler Sagar Dhankar.
