Ukraine vs England, EURO 2024 Qualifiers, September 8
Ukraine’s national football team did surprisingly well for a war-torn country in the last year. The Blue and Yellow beat teams like Scotland, Ireland, and Wales, and did pretty well against Germany in a recent friendly.
The Blue and Yellow will be up against the Three Lions in their upcoming qualification match for the 2024 UEFA European Championship. This is certainly one match to look forward to this fall.
Inter Milan vs AC Milan, September 17
There are quite a few long-running football rivalries around the world, and Derby della Madonnina (the Milano Derby) is one of them. The two Milanese teams first met on the turf in 1909. Since then, the two clubs played more than 300 matches, with AC Milan leading with 115 victories. The last meeting ended with Inter’s victory this May. AC will have a chance to fight back on September 17.
England vs Italy, EURO 2024 Qualifiers, October 17
The Three Lions have a few major ongoing rivalries, but none of them with Italy, although they should. Their record against Gli Azzurri feels like a rollercoaster ride: in recent years, the English team racked up a win, a loss, and two draws. Last year, Italy eliminated England from the Nations League. This year, the two national teams meet in the European Championship qualifiers on October 17.
Manchester United vs Manchester City, October 28
The Manchester Derby is one of the longest-running football rivalries in the world, with the first match played in 1881 - more than 140 years ago. United has the most wins on record, and City has the latest win. On October 28, the teams will meet at Old Trafford for the next clash in the rivalry.
Borussia Dortmund vs Bayern Munich, November 4
Finally, here’s one for the Bundesliga fans: the next edition of Der Klassiker, an ongoing rivalry between Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich that started in 1965.
For this edition, Bayern has prepared with a couple of big guns, including Harry Kane, signed from Tottenham for 100 million euros, and Min-Jae Kim, the centre-back coming from Napoli.
Final words
Now that high-profile football has returned to Europe, we have many great games to look forward to - and these might be the most exciting ones that we can look forward to right after the end of summer. So, prepare the popcorn and the beer, not to mention your betting slips, and mark these dates in your calendar.
