Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur created two records in the match against Ireland in T20 World Cup 2023. The right-handed batter played her 150th T20 match and became the first-ever male or female cricketer to play that many matches.
Harmanpreet came to bat at the number three position after the departure of Shafali Verma, in their last match of group 2 in the T20 World Cup 2023. India were 62/1 when captain Harmanpreet walked in to join Smriti Mandhana on the crease.
Kaur, who debuted in 2009 for India in T20Is, was seven runs short of 3000 runs in the format before this match.
Harmanpreet's poor form with the bat continued as she managed to score only 13 runs from 20 balls. Harmanpreet Kaur tried to slog a delivery from Laura Delany, but only managed to give a catch to Orla Prendergast. Prendergast took a low catch to dismiss the Indian captain.
She is now the fourth-highest run-getter in Women's T20I cricket. Moreover, she is also the only Indian Women cricketer to score more than 3000 runs in T20I cricket. In addition, she is the third-highest run-getter among Indians (male or female in T20I cricket). Only Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have scored more runs for India in T20I cricket.
