Ayush Shetty's journey to the Badminton Asia Championships 2026 final has been historical. The current US Open Super 300 champion defeated world No. 7 and current Asian Games champion Li Shi Feng of China in the first round. Then, he thrashed Chinese Taipei’s Chi Yu Jen in the second round.

In the quarter-final he went past Olympian and world No. 4 Jonatan Christie of Indonesia, Jonatan Christie without dropping enroute to the semi-final, and ensured a medal for India. He then became the first Indian men’s singles player since HS Prannoy in 2018 to ensure a medal for the country in Badminton Asia Championships.

In the semi-finals he then made history by beating current Olympic silver medalist Kunlavut Vitidsarn in a three-game match to enter the final.
