It was the third meeting between the two players on the WTA Tour. Ons Jabeur had won the first at Daytona Beach in 2016 and Bernarda Pera the second at Guangzhou in 2019. Despite two rounds of 16 in 2020 and 2021, Ons Jabeur had never qualified for the quarter-finals at Roland-Garros. Ons Jabeur remains one of the favorites of this edition of the French Open 2023, with Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka, and Coco Gauff.
Ons Jabeur was able to manage her match from the start by breaking his opponent. She unrolled her tennis during the first set. Efficient, and concentrated, the Tunisian did not leave too much room for Pera who was looking for solutions to catch up, with all the same some concessions from the seventh world. At the start of the second set, the American got back on her feet and attacked Jabeur on her service game by breaking her from the start, but she was unbroken immediately afterward. The Tunisian revives in the match and dominates it by ensuring a precious qualification.

Last year, the Tunisian player was even eliminated as soon as she entered the competition. This year, she only struggled in one match, against Olga Danilović (4-6, 6-4, 6-2) in the third round. She had then been mentally strong enough to overcome the astonishing Serbian player ranked 105th in the world.
Ons Jabeur will face, in the French Open 2023 quarterfinals, the one who will win the current match between Sara Sorribes Tormo and Beatriz Haddad Maia, a more difficult match with a 1st set won by S.Tormo 7-6.
