Leylah Fernandez, 19, set a career-high WTA world ranking of 19th earlier this month, and she has one more round in Indian Wells to shatter it. In the second round of the Indian Wells 2022, the newcomer breezed over Amanda Anisimova, one of the underdogs, in straight sets. Then, in the third round, an in-form Shelby Rogers awaited the Canadian as an impediment on her way. However, Fernandez upset Shelby Rogers in a three-set showdown. Thus, she earned a place for herself in the 4th round.

Badosa, on the other hand, kicked off her 2022 with a blast. At the start of the season, she won her third career title at the Sydney Tennis Classic. On Monday, the defending Indian Wells champion defeated Sara Sorribes Tormo in straight sets to extend her winning streak in the desert to nine games. Therefore, she was able to enter the 4th round of collision. Last year, the Spaniard won the title in a dramatic match against Victoria Azarenka.

Leylah Fernandez Vs Paula Badosa Head-To-Head Records

Paula Badosa Gibert and Leylah Fernandez will meet for the second time. Badosa leads the head-to-head 1-0, 1-0 on hard. The Spaniard prevailed 7-5 7-6(3) in the qualifiers in Auckland in 2020, the last time that they played each other.

Leylah Fernandez Vs Paula Badosa: Who Will Be The Ultimate Winner ?

Paula badosa will enter the contest as the overwhelming favourite.

On the other hand, last season in the US Open, Fernandez defeated a number of strong opponents, including Naomi Osaka, Angelique Kerber, Elina Svitolina, and Aryna Sabalenka. In the process, she showcased her abilities and established herself as one of tennis' most prominent new faces. However, the Canadian has a long way to go to equal Badosa's expertise and experience in the field. Also, regardless of the winner, Paula Badosa's 10-match run in Indian Wells against Leylah Fernandez's current seven-match form is what could be an exciting maiden tour-level matchup.

Our Prediction: Paula Badosa to win in two sets.

11. Megan Rapinoe (Football) | $8.2 million

Megan Rapinoe did not get the storybook ending to her career as she was injured early in the NWSL Championship game, and her OL Reign fell to Gotham FC. 13. Candace Parker (Basketball) | $8.1 million

Candace Parker captured the 2021 WNBA championship with the Chicago Sky and won another title (while injured) with the Las Vegas Aces in 2023. But with league salaries capped at around $200,000, she makes nearly all of her money from endorsements. Her brand partners include Adidas, CarMax and Gatorade and her annual off-the-court pay is more than double her total playing salary across her 15 years in the WNBA.

Candace was the first woman to appear on the cover of an "NBA 2K" video game and was among the star athletes to invest in trading-card exchange Alt in a funding round announced in November 2021. She also has a lucrative contract as an NBA analyst for Turner Sports.

14. Alex Morgan (Football) | $7.8 million

In 2021, she founded a female-focused media platform, Togethxr, with fellow star athletes Sue Bird, Chloe Kim and Simone Manuel. This year, she launched her own foundation. Her latest is an investment in Los Angeles Golf Club, a franchise in the Monday night golf league TGL set to launch in 2025.

Qinwen Zheng won the WTA's Most Improved Player Award in 2023, an impressive follow-up to her 2022 Newcomer of the Year Award. She won singles titles in Palermo and Zhengzhou in 2023 and reached the US Open quarterfinals. Some in the sport wonder if she could be a marketing star along the lines of her countrywoman Li Na, who finished no lower than third in the female athletes earnings ranking from 2012 to 2014.

16. Simone Biles (Gymnastics) | $7.1 million

She led the US to a record-breaking seventh consecutive world team title. In 2021, Biles left Nike to join Athleta, and this year, the brand released their third Athleta Girl Collection with Biles, which is entitled "Because I Can."

16. PV Sindhu (Badminton) | $7.1 million

India's PV Sindhu has made it into the list of top highest-paid female athletes by Forbes where she finished at the 16th spot alongside gymnast Simone Biles with her $7.1 million earnings. She is her country's sole representative on the list. Sindhu earned around seven million USD in off-field partnerships, having secured deals with Centuary Mattress and American Pistachio Growers in the past year.

Sindhu is already among India's most marketable athletes, with her sponsors ranging from Asian Paints to Bank of Baroda. Compared to her off-field marketing prowess, Sindhu earned just 0.1 million USD in on-field prize money, underlining her barren year and Badminton's financial disparity to other, more global sports.

Markéta Vondroušová close the list of the top 20 highest-paid female athletes. At the time, Vondroušová, who was ranked 42nd, made history by becoming the first unseeded woman to clinch the Wimbledon singles title in July. It was an unexpected victory for her, as evidenced by her last-minute arrangement for a cat sitter.

Following her triumphant performance at the tournament, the 24-year-old tennis star from the Czech Republic secured a new clothing sponsorship deal with J.Lindeberg. She ended the year on a high note, ranking seventh in the women's singles rankings.

Indian Wells 2022: Taylor Fritz beats Rafael Nadal to win the title

After defeating tennis ace Rafael Nadal in the Indian Wells 2022 final, Taylor Fritz won his first ATP Masters 1000 championship. The American won his second ATP Tour title with a 6-3, 7-6(5) triumph. Fritz interrupted Nadal's 20-match winning streak and prevented him from earning his 37th ATP Masters 1000 championship.

Nadal won his record-breaking 21st Grand Slam victory at the Australian Open earlier this year.

The Indian Wells 2022 final contest in a nutshell

Taylor Fritz broke Nadal twice in the first set to take a 5-1 lead. Nadal closed to 5-3 with a break, but a backhand error by Fritz handed him another break and the set. On his serve, Nadal saved a match point with a forehand winner to level the second set at 5-all. In the next game, he had two break points on Fritz's serve, but the American held for a 6-5 victory. But, to force a tiebreaker, Nadal held.

To set up Fritz's second match point, Nadal blasted two straight forehands wide. Another Nadal blunder led to the 24-year-old American's biggest win of his career, not far from his hometown of San Diego. Guy Fritz and Kathy May, Fritz's parents, are both former tour players.

"There's just no way it's real"- Taylor Fritz

"This is just one of those childhood dreams -- winning this tournament especially, Indian Wells -- this is one of those childhood dreams that you never even think could come true," an emotional Fritz said in his on-court interview. "I just keep saying: 'No, there's just no way it's real."

"I can't even begin to describe how ridiculous it is I could play like I did today. I've never experienced worse pain than that before a match. I took a couple of changes in direction with my steps and screamed. It was tough."

"We did a lot of work on the ankle leading up to the match. I went through a roller coaster of emotions thinking there's no way I can play. Then I went out hitting on the back courts and feeling happy, thinking I can play. It didn't affect me at all on court, so I couldn't be happier," he added.

With four consecutive service breaks, the final of Indian Wells 2022 got off to a rocky start. Swiatek, despite the challenging conditions, was the first to adjust, holding to go 3-2 up and broke Sakkari to take a one-set lead.

Sakkari was never able to unwind and relax during the competition. Swiatek held service to start the second set, but then it was all Swiatek as she swept the next five games.

Nonetheless, Swiatek will wake up on Monday as the new world number two and the first Polish player to lift the trophy, and while she acknowledges it's strange, she's already preparing her sights on Ash Barty and the top place.

Rafael Nadal has won all 20 of his matches so far, thanks to the year 2022. The Spaniard started his run on a good note by conquering the Melbourne summer set 1 without losing a set. Then he went on to establish his dominance over the Australian Open 2022 as he beat the recent World No. 1, Daniil Medvedev, in a riveting battle, after losing the first two sets. Also, in the process, he shattered all previous records and made history by becoming the first male player to win 21 grand slam titles.

The Spaniard began his season at the Indian Wells Masters, where he was seeded fourth, with a hard-contested victory over Sebastian Korda. He then defeated Dan Evans and Reilly Opelka to advance to the quarterfinals, where he upset Nick Kyrgios in three sets. Following that, on Saturday, Nadal had to fight for over three hours to beat newbie Carlos Alcaraz 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 in the semifinals.

He then upset Jaume Munar, Alex de Minaur, and Miomir Kecmanovic to go to the semifinals for the second year in a row, where his adversary Andrey Rublev awaited from him.

To reach the final, an in-form Fritz defeated the Russian in straight sets (7-5, 6-4). In the process, he became the first American since John Isner in 2012 to reach the final of the Indian Wells Masters.
