We are only 9 days away from the 2021 US open in New York. The 141st edition of tennis US Open is starting from 30 August and will continue till 12th September on outdoor hard courts at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City. US Open is the fourth and final Grand Slam event of the year. And the defending champions are Dominic Thiem and Naomi Osaka. 2020: Dominic Thiem and Naomi Osaka
The defending champion of the US Open men's singles is Dominic Thiem. At the 2020 US Open, the final was played between Dominic and Alexander Zverev. Dominic defeated Zverev, 2–6, 4–6, 6–4, 6–3, 7–6 to win the Men's Singles tennis title at the 2020 US Open. With this win, he became the first player ever in the Open Era who won from two sets down in a US Open final. Also, he became the first male player who won from two sets down at the US Open since Pancho Gonzalez defeated Ted Schroeder in 1949. The final was historical as well because, in the history of the US Open, this was the first time when the final was decided by the 5th set tie-break.

The defending champion of the US Open women's singles is Naomi Osaka. This was her 2nd US Open title after 2018. The final was played between Victoria Azarenka and Naomi Azarenka, where she defeated Azarenka, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3, and won the women's singles tennis title for the 2nd time at the 2020 US Open. After this win, she became the first player from a fully Asian country to win a 3rd Grand Slam singles title.
2019: Rafael Nadal and Bianca Andreescu
Rafael Nadal beat Daniil Medvedev, 7–5, 6–3, 5–7, 4–6, 6–4 in the 2019 US Open men's singles to win the title. This was his 19th Grand Slam title and 4th US Open title. Since 2006-08, this was the first time when all the tennis legends; Rafael Nadal Novak Djokovic and Rodger Federer won all the 4 Grand Slam singles titles in consecutive 3 years. For the first time ever in the Open Era, all the 4 quarterfinalists of the 2019 US Open were 33 years old or older. After reaching the finals, Rafael became the oldest player who reached all the 4 Grand Slam semi-finals, and at least 3 Grand Slam finals in a calendar year in the Open Era.
Bianca Andreescu won her first Grand Slam title in the 2019 US Open women's single. She conquered Serena Williams, 6-3, 7-5, and won the title for the first time. With this win, she became the first-ever Canadian Player and the first-ever player born in the 2000s who won a Grand Slam singles title. Since the 2004 US Open, she was also the youngest person to win the title. After Maria Sharapova in the 2006 US Open, she became the first teenager to win a Grand Slam singles title.

2018: Novak Djokovic and Naomi Osaka
Novak Djokovic won the title of the 2018 US Open men's singles final. The final contest was held between Djokovic and Juan Martín del Potro where Novak defeated his opponent, 6–3, 7–6, 6–3, and won the men's singles tennis title at the 2018 US Open. This was also his 3r US open title after 2015.
The winner of the 2018 US Open is the Japanese youngster Naomi Osaka. She defeated the legend, Serena Williams, 6–2, 6–4, at home turf. The final took 1 hour and 19 minutes to finish and in the end, Osaka was the winner. The final was historically important for both the players. Naomi was the first-ever female Japanese player who contested in a Grand Slam women singles final. Not only this, but she was also the first able-bodied Japanese player who won a Grand Slam singles title. Whereas Serena Williams played the US Open after her pregnancy in 2017.
2017: Rafael Nadal and Sloane Stephens
Rafael Nadal overwhelmed Kevin Anderson, 6–3, 6–3, 6–4 to win 16th Major title and 3rd US Open title at the 2017 US Open. This win was his first hard-court title after January 2014. He retained the no. 1 ranked singles player by ATP after Federer lost in the quarter-finals.
Sloane Stephens defeated Madison Keys in the final, 6–3, 6–0, to win the Women's Singles tennis title at the 2017 US Open. This was her first Grand Slam title. After Wimbledon in 2018, she achieved a ranking of No. 3 in the world. She is also the winner of 6 WTA singles titles

2016: Stan Wawrinka and Angelique Kerber
In the 2016 US Open men's singles final, Stan Wawrinka won against the defending champion Novak Djokovic, 6–7, 6–4, 7–5, 6–3. Since 2011, this was the first time the US Open men's singles winner won the title after being a match point down with Wawrinka having saved a match point in the 3rd round.
Angelique Kerber overwhelmed Karolína Plíšková in the final, 6–3, 4–6, 6–4, and won her second Women's Singles tennis title at the 2016 US Open. She is the first German ever who won the US Open since 1996 when Steffi Graf won the title. She also became the first player since 1997 to win both hard court slams in the same calendar year. Martina Hingis was the tennis player who did it in 1997.
