Nagal confirmed the news on social media
“Extremely glad to share that I have officially qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics. This is a monumental moment for me as the Olympics holds a special place in my heart,” said Sumit Nagal in a social media post.
The All India Tennis Association (AITA) said Nagal was in the list of alternate players when the player rankings were considered for qualification as per the ITF on June 10.
This will be Nagal's second Olympic participation
Sumit Nagal will represent India in the men's singles category in the Paris Games. He will be participating in the Olympics for the second time, before this he had also played in Tokyo Olympics where he had to face defeat in the second round to second-seeded Russian Daniil Medvedev.
The 2024 season has been good for Sumit Nagal
The 2024 season has been a good one for the 26-year-old. He performed brilliantly and made it to the main draw of the first Grand Slam Australian Open of the year and caused an upset by defeating Alexander Bublik, ranked 37th in the world, in the opening round. Nagal also qualified for the main draws of ATP 1000 events such as the Indian Wells Masters and Monte Carlo Masters.
Sumit Nagal boosted his chances of qualification by winning the Heilbronn Challenger earlier this month as he moved into the top 80 of the ATP singles rankings. The Heilbronn win was Nagal's second Challenger title this season, having won the Chennai Challenger earlier this year.

Second Indian player to make cut in singles event
Nagal is only the second Indian player to make the cut in the singles event in consecutive editions of the Summer Games since Leander Paes (1992-2000). Paes had won bronze at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996, India’s second individual medal at the quadrennial event.
Bopanna-Balaji will represent India in doubles
Rohan Bopanna and N. Sriram Balaji will compete in the men's doubles event at the Paris Games. Being a top-10 player, Bopanna had the option to choose his partner. AITA approved his choice and associated him with Balaji.
