Indian sailor Anandi wins gold medal in 34th King's Cup Regatta 2022

Indian sailor Anandi Nandan Chandavarkar has won the gold medal in the overall open skiff category at Asia's most prestigious 34th King's Cup Regatta 2022.

Mumbai-based 13-year-old Anandi has been sailing in the open skiff category for the past few years and has won several prizes in international events. Recently she participated in the French Open Skiff National event and stood 5th in the U15 category. Anandi also participated in this year's Japanese Open Skiff Nationals 2022.

Meanwhile, three participants represented Team India at the King's Cup Regatta 2022 in Phuket. Anandi Chandavarkar won gold. While Luv Sakpal finished fifth, and Armaan Malhotra was 12th. Anandi Nandan Chandavarkar has trained under coach Dipesh Nerpagare and mentored by Amish Ved. Anandi is now working hard to fulfill her dream of a podium finish at the Open Skiff World Championships in July 2023.

"Sailing is my passion and the King's Cup Regatta is on the bucket list of every sailor. I feel proud that I won the gold for India and hope it will inspire other teenagers to discover their dreams with passion." On winning the first position, Anandi said.

The King's Cup Regatta began in 1987 and is held annually for one week in Phuket, Thailand. This year, the Phuket King's Cup Regatta 2022 saw a record number of small boats sailing with 182 ahead of the start of the larger boat competition.
