The Services Sports Control Board won the 38th Summer National Games 2025 by topping the medal tally with 121 medals - 68 gold, 26 silver and 27 bronze.
This was the fifth Raja Bhalindra Singh Trophy for the Army team.
In the last 37th Summer National Games 2023 held in Goa, Maharashtra topped the medal tally.
Uttarakhand hosted the National Games 2025 in 12 cities of the state from 28 January to 14 February 2025.
The National Games are organized by the Indian Olympic Association and hosted by the state/union territory government.
Opening and closing ceremony
The opening ceremony of the National Games 2025 was held on 28 January 2025 in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. The Games were inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The closing ceremony of the Games was held on 14 February 2025 at the International Sports Complex, Haldwani, Uttarakhand.
The National Games flag was officially handed over to Meghalaya during the closing ceremony of the 38th Summer National Games.
Meghalaya to host 39th Summer Games in 2027
The Indian Olympic Association has selected Meghalaya to host the 39th edition of the upcoming Summer National Games to be held in February/March 2027.
Meghalaya will host the National Games for the first time.
Among the northeastern states, Manipur hosted the 30th National Games in 1999, and Assam hosted the 33rd edition in 2007.
National Games had 35 sports
The 38th National Games had 35 sports – 33 medal sports and two non-medal sports.
Mallakhamb and Yogasana were initially declared as demonstration sports, but later it was converted into medal sports.
Kalaripayattu and rafting were demonstration sports in which no medals were given to the participants.
A total of 1523 across 33 sports – 457 gold, 455 silver and 611 bronze medals were at stake.
Athletes from 28 states, eight union territories and Services Sports Control Boards competed for 1523 medals at the 38th National Games.
Services gets Raja Bhalindra Singh Trophy for 5th time
The Raja Bhalindra Singh Trophy is awarded to the team that wins the most gold medals in the Summer National Games.
The Services Sports Control Board, comprising players from the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force, has won the Raja Bhalendra Singh Trophy five times - in 2007, 2011, 2015, 2022 and 2025.
This time, Maharashtra stood second in the medal tally in the 38th National Games by winning 198 medals with 54 gold medals.
Successful athletes of National Games 2025
The National Games 2025 featured some top athletes from India, including Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain (boxing), Swapnil Kusale, Sarabjot Singh and Vijay Kumar (shooting).
Tajinderpal Singh Toor (shot put), Parul Chaudhary (3000m steeplechase), Jyothi Yarraji (100m hurdles, 200m) and Amoj Jacob (400m) were some of the other big names in athletics events.
