K. D. Jadhav Indoor Hall in New Delhi, India will host the prestigious Indian Open 2022 from 11 to 16 January 2022. Indian Open 2022 is the first tournament of the upcoming 2022 BWF World Tour. In addition, it is also a part of the India Open championships. The Badminton Association of India with sanctions from the Badminton World Federation organizes this tournament. Also, the overall prize money for this tournament is US$400,000 which will occur without spectators due to the pandemic.

This tournament is going to be the Badminton World Federation season opener in 2022. Due to the outbreak of Covid-19, the India Open Super 500 got canceled during the last two years.

Indian players representing in the tournament:

  • PV Sindhu, the two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu is the top seeder in the women's singles.
  • Saina Nehwal is the fourth seeded player in the tournament.
  • Kidambi Srikanth created history in the BWF world championship after winning the silver medal and now he entered the Super 500 as the top sider in the men's singles.

  • The Tokyo Olympian B Sai Praneeth will also joined Srikanth at No. 2 followed by Lakshya Sen at No. 3.
  • The new badminton world champion from Loh Kean Yew is seeded at the fifth.
  • The other Indian contenders in this category are HS Prannoy, Parupalli Kashyap, and Sameer Verma.
  • The Tokyo Olympians Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy will lead the Indian challenge in the men's doubles.

  • The World No. 2 duo Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan are also present.
  • The other Indian contenders in the men's doubles are the duos of Sumeeth Reddy-Manu Attri, MR Arjun-Dhruv Kapila and Vishnuvardhan-Krishna Prasad.
  • Ashwini Ponnappa-N Sikki Reddy are second seeds in the women's doubles.
  • Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly are the eighth in the draw.
  • Dhruv Kapila-N Sikki Reddy will feature in the mixed doubles category.
