Vikas, who is part of the ongoing Boxing National Camp at the Sai Patiala Centre, suffered an injury to the left distal biceps tendon during a sparring session on June 23. The team doctor underwent an MRI to get clarity on the condition of his injury. An MRI confirmed that Vikas had sustained a distal biceps injury in his left biceps. After that, they referred his case to CAIMS for further advice.

After that, CAIMS suggested that he needs to undergo an immediate surgery for a speedy recovery. So Vikas underwent the surgery on 29th June. The entire cost of his treatment and rest has been borne by SAI and the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) under the National Campers Insurance Scheme.
