Elorda Cup 2024: Four Indian boxers end their campaign with bronze medals

It was a disappointing day for Indian boxers at the Elorda Cup 2024 on Friday as all four male boxers lost their semi-finals, leaving them content with bronze medals. 

Yaiphaba Singh Soibam (48kg) and Abhishek Yadav (67kg) lost 3-4 in the semi-finals after review to Kazakhstan's Zhussupov Askhat and Mursal Nurbek respectively. 

Vishal (86kg) lost 0-5 to reigning world champion Oralbay Nurbek of Kazakhstan. Gaurav Chauhan also lost to another Kazakhstan boxer and Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Kamshybek Kunkabayev by the same margin of 0-5 in the Elorda Cup 2024 semi-finals of the +92 kg category.

On Thursday, Shalakha Singh Sansanwal (70 kg) and Monika (+81 kg) ended their campaign with bronze medals after losing in the semi-finals. 

Nikhat Zareen registered a sensational 5-0 win over Kazakhstan’s Tomiris Myrzakul to enter the women’s 52kg final. Besides Nikhat, Minakshi (48kg), Anamika (50kg) and Manisha (60kg) also made their ways into the finals comfortably. They will fight for the gold medal on Saturday.
