Ten days later, the right-arm pacer clinched his 100th ODI scalp against New Zealand in Dambulla. He ended up with 338 wickets in 226 ODI matches for Sri Lanka.

Malinga picked up his 100th T20I wicket against the same opposition in Pallekele on September 6, 2019. He was in fact the first-ever bowler to take 100 wickets in the shortest format. Slinga Malinga bowed out with 107 scalps in 84 T20Is.

4. 289 - AUS vs NZ, North Sydney, 2012

Highest target chased in WODIs

In 2012, the Australian team chased down a target of 289 runs against New Zealand in North Sydney, winning in 46.4 overs. Australia’s top-order batters performed brilliantly in that match, and the team achieved the target at a run rate of 6.19.

New Zealand batted first and posted a competitive total of 288/7, giving Australia a challenging target to chase in front of their home crowd. Australia approached the chase with a strong opening partnership, setting a solid foundation. Meg Lanning played a key role, scoring 112 runs, while Alex Blackwell contributed 78 runs to stabilize the innings. Their partnership helped Australia stay ahead of the required run rate and absorb the pressure of a challenging target. Despite losing a few middle-order wickets, Australia maintained momentum with smart running between the wickets and steady partnerships down the order.

3. 302 - SL vs SA, Potchefstroom, 2024

Highest target chased in WODIs

In a thrilling match played in Potchefstroom in 2024, the Sri Lankan women's team chased down a target of 302 runs against South Africa in 44.3 overs At that time, it was the third-largest run chase in the history of the Women's World Cup and proved to be one of Sri Lanka's biggest victories.

Chasing 302 to win, Athapaththu led Sri Lanka’s fightback with a stunning hundred, and remained unbeaten on 195, the third-highest score in women’s ODIs, as the visitors overhauled the target with 33 balls to spare. Athapaththu's innings was also the second highest individual score in a successful run chase in ODI cricket - both men's and women's - marginally behind the magnificent 201* Glenn Maxwell put together for Australia against Afghanistan at last year's ICC Men's Cricket World Cup.

2. 331 - AUS vs IND, Vizag, 2025

Highest target chased in WODIs

In a league match of the ICC Women's World Cup 2025, Australia chased down a target of 331 runs against India. At that time, it was the biggest successful run chase in women’s ODI cricket, a record that India broke just 18 days later.

The chase was masterminded by captain Alyssa Healy's explosive 142 off 107 balls, including 21 fours and three sixes. She was ably supported by Phoebe Litchfield, who contributed to a rapid 85-run opening stand. Ellyse Perry, despite retiring hurt, returned to steady the innings during a tense phase. India mounted a comeback with Amanjot Sharma dismissing Ashleigh Gardner and Sophie Molineux in consecutive deliveries, but Perry and Kim Garth’s composure sealed the victory.

Pitch Report: Dr DY Patil Sports Academy

The venue at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai has become an iconic landmark for women's cricket in the last couple of years or so. However, the ongoing World Cup marked the ODI debut for the ground.

In three games played here so far, the one between India Women and Bangladesh Women was washed out due to rain, whereas, both the remaining ones were won by the teams batting first. However, there are chances of rain on the day of the second semi-final as well, and keeping this in mind, opting to chase could be beneficial for the team winning the toss.

Weather Report

As per AccuWeather, there is 25% chance of rain during the day and night on Thursday. There is also a 4 and 3% chance of thunderstorms respectively as well. This means there could be a couple of starts and stops to the game, but a contest is all but certain. The maximum and minimum temperatures are projected to be 32 and 25-degree Celsius respectively.
