Shakib Al Hasan has been selected captain of Bangladesh for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022, New Zealand tri-series, and T20 World Cup in Australia.
The BCB announced the decision this afternoon, putting an end to the ambiguity that has existed for the past few weeks when the board notified Shakib that he had to choose between playing for Bangladesh and keeping his endorsement with a "betting company." Shakib's contract with Betwinner News had been terminated.

Nurul Hasan had replaced long-time white-ball captain Mahmudullah in T20Is on Bangladesh's previous trip to Zimbabwe before being sidelined by a fractured finger. Mosaddek Hossain captained the team in the final of three T20Is in Zimbabwe, which Bangladesh lost 2-1. In addition, under Tamim Iqbal, Bangladesh lost the subsequent ODIs in Zimbabwe.
The BCB also confirmed a 17-man squad for the Asia Cup, which begins on August 27 in the UAE. Bangladesh had missed the initial squad-naming date as the board resolved the Shakib sponsorship problem.
Bangladesh will compete in the Asia Cup main round alongside India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and a qualifier. The qualifier's identity will be revealed in a qualifying tournament beginning on August 20.
