Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell scored the fastest ODI World Cup century, reaching the milestone in just 40 balls against the Netherlands in New Delhi on Wednesday.
The 35-year-old rewrote history at the same venue and the same edition Markram did a few weeks ago. South African right-handed batter Aiden Markram scored the century off 49 balls against Sri Lanka to become the fastest to score a century.
Maxwell reached the century in the 49th over bowled by Bas de Leede, smashing two fours and three sixes in the first five balls. De Leede conceded 115 runs in his 10-over spell.
Glenn Maxwell came in to bat in the 40th over. Not many would have predicted that Maxwell would reach his century. He reached the milestone, and broke the record by a margin of 9 balls. Maxwell was at his peak, punishing the bowlers to all parts of the park. He brought his half-century in 26 balls before reaching the three-figure mark in another 14 deliveries.
