The first match of the 5-match Test series between Australia and India will be played from 22nd November (Friday) at Optus Stadium in Perth. Along with the prestige of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, all eyes will be on the star batsman of the Indian team, Virat Kohli.
Virat Kohli has scored 3,426 runs in Australia across all formats with 11 centuries and 19 fifties. He is behind West Indies legends Viv Richards (4529 runs) and Desmond Haynes (4238 runs). If Kohli scores a century in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy this time, he will become the Indian batsman to score the most test centuries on Australian soil. Apart from this, if Kohli scores four centuries in the entire series, he will become the first foreign player to score 10 centuries in the history of Test cricket in Australia, going past Joe Root of England.

116 Runs | vs Australia, Adelaide, 2012
In the 2011–12 series, Virat Kohli scored his first test century in Australia during the fourth test in Adelaide. India came into the Adelaide test 3-0 behind in the series. Furthermore, Kohli’s place in the test team was under scrutiny due to the lack of big scores. Kohli’s hundred came in India’s reply to Australia’s mammoth 604 runs total in the first innings. He hit a six and 11 fours in his innings. Together with Wriddhiman Saha, he scored 115 runs to drag India to the 272-run mark. However, India lost the game by 298 runs.

On a good batting strip in Hobart, Sri Lanka posted 320 after tons by Tillakaratne Dilshan and Kumar Sangakkara and India had to chase down the total before 40th over to qualify for the tri-series final. After coming to the crease at 2-86 in the 10th over, Kohli unleashed an almighty assault on the Sri Lankan bowlers as he led India to victory with more than 13 overs remaining. He scored 133 runs off 86 balls and remained unbeaten.
115 and 141 Runs | Adelaide, 2014
The first Test of the 2014–15 Border–Gavaskar Trophy was played in Adelaide. While chasing the target of 364 runs on the last day of the match, Kohli played a fearless innings under immense pressure for India. After his first innings of 114, Kohli and Murali Vijay (99) put on a partnership worth 185 runs which had India in the driver's seat.
However, India could not manage to win the match and fell short by 48 runs. Despite the defeat, Kohli's undying spirit was praised by the cricketing world. He became the second Indian captain to score two centuries in a Test match.

In the third Test of the 2014–15 Border–Gavaskar Trophy, Virat Kohli achieved his highest test score in Australia. In an attempt to save the match, Kohli made a partnership of 260 runs with Ajinkya Rahane (147). Kohli played an inning of 169 runs with 18 fours in India's 465-run first innings total. He also scored a half-century (54 runs) in the second innings. MS Dhoni and Ravichandran Ashwin batted out the final 13 overs on the last day to save the test, which ended in a hard-fought draw.

Kohli capped off his thunderous 2014 tour of Australia with a 147-run knock in Sydney. During his spectacular innings at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), he scored his fourth century of the series. With 20 fours in his innings, Kohli spearheaded India's response to Australia's overwhelming 572 first-innings total. He and KL Rahul, who achieved his first test century, formed an important 140-run partnership for the third wicket. The match ended in a draw, with India displaying resilience on the final day.

Kohli's love for Adelaide continued when he scored a stunning 107 against Pakistan in the fourth match of Pool B in ICC World Cup 2025. Batting first on his happy hunting ground, Kohli's controlled knock ensured India reached 300 and secured a crucial win in the group stage. He scored 107 runs in 126 balls as India won the match by 47 runs.

With India 2-0 down in the best-of-five ODI series against Australia, Kohli needed to step up again to deliver his side a big total (he had scored 91 and 56 in the two losses in the series). During the innings (117 of 117), King Kohli passed 7,000 runs in the format, becoming the fastest player to reach the milestone by innings batted (161).

Chasing 349 to win, Kohli brought his beast mode and powered his way to a century off 84 deliveries, his 25th ODI ton. Along with Shikhar Dhawan, who also scored a century, India were cruising to their target needing less than a run-a-ball for the last 13 overs, but John Hastings and Kane Richardson inspired a collapse as without Kohli, the Indian batters panicked and they lost by 25 runs.

In the second test match of India's tour of Australia in 2018-19, the Indian team faced a seaming pitch at the new stadium in Perth, where most of the batsmen were struggling. Whereas Virat Kohli stood like a rock in the Indian batting lineup and scored his 25th Test tons (123), consisting of 13 fours and a six. Despite his valiant efforts in the first innings, India lost the match by 146 runs while chasing 287.

Australia set India 299 to win in Adelaide, knowing a win for the hosts would seal the series. But, so often the case against Australia, Kohli had other ideas. Although his first 50 took 66 deliveries and contained only two boundaries, Kohli effortlessly changed gears and targeted Nathan Lyon to good effect. His second 50 took only 42 balls as Kohli raised the bat for the 39th time in one-day internationals.
