Mar 23, 2025, 5:31 PM

6 needed from 12 balls!

Vignesh Puthur had a tough time in that over as CSK closed in on the target!

He started with Ravindra Jadeja unable to get a full ball away, stuck for a dot with a defensive shot. But Jadeja got going on the second, flicking a full one for a single to deep midwicket. Then, Rachin Ravindra took over. Puthur served up a full toss on the third, and Ravindra pounced, smashing it over midwicket for a massive six to bring up his fifty in style- a magnificent strike!

Ravindra kept the pressure on, sweeping a full ball for a single to deep square leg on the fourth, and Jadeja added a single to short cover on the fifth after stepping down. Rachin sealed the over with a bang, stepping down again to loft a full ball for another six over deep midwicket on the last—game on! Puthur couldn’t handle the onslaught as those two sixes brought CSK right to the brink.

15 runs from the over (0, 1, 6, 1, 1, 6). CSK at 150/5 after the 18th, needing just 6 off 6 balls.

Mar 23, 2025, 5:28 PM

21 needed from 18!

10 from Boult's over!

He started with Rachin Ravindra pulling a short ball to deep midwicket for a single, keeping it safe. Ravindra Jadeja then got into the act on the second, showing some tact—opening the face of the bat to cut a short ball for a boundary to point, a much-needed four!

Jadeja kept going, pulling a short one for two to deep midwicket on the third, and then another pull for a single to midwicket on the fourth. Ravindra pulled again on the fifth, this time for a single to deep midwicket, and Jadeja finished the over with a glide to square third man for a single on the last.

Boult couldn’t stop the runs, and that boundary from Jadeja keeps CSK in the hunt!

Mar 23, 2025, 5:17 PM

Naman Dhir kept things steady in that over, but it was all about singles!

He started with Ravindra Jadeja driving a full ball for a single to long-off, setting the tone. Rachin Ravindra followed up, looking a bit uncomfortable but still managing to drive a full one for a single to wide long-on on the second.

Jadeja kept the strike rotating, paddle-sweeping a good-length ball for a single to deep backward square leg on the third, and Rachin drove another single to wide long-on on the fourth.

Jadeja paddle-swept again on the fifth, this time to short fine leg for a single, and Rachin wrapped it up with a cut to deep cover for another single on the last. Dhir didn’t give the batters any room for big shots, but those singles kept the scoreboard ticking along nicely.

12th Over: Vignes gets his third | CSK 108/4

Vignes Puthur took three wickets on his debut, CSK vs MI, IPL 2025, 3rd Match, Chennai | sportzpoint.com

Vignesh Puthur’s been a revelation, but he took some stick in this over!

He started with Rachin Ravindra dancing down the track to a full ball, launching a massive lofted shot straight over the rope for a six—what a way to kick things off! Rachin kept the momentum, pulling a good-length ball to deep midwicket for a single on the second.

Deepak Hooda couldn’t get going on the third, stuck for a dot as he uncomfortably paddle-swept one. But Puthur struck again on the fourth—Hooda went for a slog sweep, but it went straight to Satyanarayana Penmetsa at deep backward square leg, another wicket for the debutant!

New man Sam Curran got off the mark with a single, pulling to long-on on the fifth. Rachin couldn’t finish with any runs, flicking the last ball straight to short fine leg for a dot. Puthur’s picking up wickets, but that six kept the runs coming!

Mar 23, 2025, 4:51 PM

10th Over: Vignes gets his second! | CSK 96/3

Vignesh Puthur is making waves on his debut in this over!

He started with Rachin Ravindra working a full ball for two with a sweep to square fine leg—smart batting there. Rachin kept the strike rotating, sweeping another full one for a single to deep square leg on the second.

But Puthur wasn’t done yet—Shivam Dube went for a big lofted on drive on the third, but Puthur beat him, and Dube couldn’t get it away, stuck for a dot. The pressure told on the fourth; Dube tried another lofted drive, but this time, he miscued it straight to Tilak Varma at long-on—a massive wicket for the young bowler!

New man Deepak Hooda got a gift on the fifth, a full toss, which he swept for a single to deep backward square leg to get off the mark. Rachin couldn’t finish with any runs, pushing the last ball to midwicket for a dot. Puthur’s picking up crucial wickets at the right time!

4 runs and a wicket (2, 1, 0, W, 1, 0). CSK at 96/3 after the 10th.

Mar 23, 2025, 4:47 PM

8th Over: Debutant Vignesh gets his first | CSK 79/2

Vignesh Puthur had a big moment in that over!

He kicked things off with Ruturaj Gaikwad, nudging a single to deep midwicket, keeping it safe. Rachin Ravindra followed suit, pushing a single to the same area on the second. Gaikwad then got a bit more aggressive, square driving a good-length ball for two to deep point on the third.

But Puthur held his nerve—Gaikwad’s cut on the fourth went straight to point for a dot. And then the breakthrough!

On the fifth, Gaikwad went for a loft off a full ball but didn’t connect well, and Will Jacks took a comfortable catch at long-off.

The young debutant broke the partnership- a huge wicket! New man Shivam Dube got off the mark with a leg glance for a single to deep backward square leg on the last. Puthur’s got something to celebrate there.

5 runs and a wicket (1, 1, 2, 0, W, 1). CSK at 79/2 after the 8th.

Mar 23, 2025, 4:31 PM

6th Over: Ruturaj hits Santner for 14 | CSK 62/1

Mitchell Santner had a real rollercoaster in that over!

He started off well, keeping Ruturaj Gaikwad quiet for the first two balls—Gaikwad couldn’t get a defensive push or a sweep away, both ending in dots, one at short fine leg.

But then Gaikwad turned it on! On the third, he picked the length early, made some room, and whacked a good-length ball over midwicket for a massive six—absolutely cracking!

Santner tried to pull it back, but Gaikwad wasn’t done; he missed a pull on the fourth for another dot but then smashed a lofted cover drive off a full ball for four to deep cover on the fifth.

And just to rub it in, Gaikwad finished with a cracking pull shot for another four to deep midwicket on the last. Santner had Gaikwad in check early, but those big shots made it a pricey over.

14 runs from the over (0, 0, 6, 0, 4, 4). CSK 62/1 after the 6th.

Mar 23, 2025, 4:28 PM

He kicked things off with a wayward full ball down the leg side to Rachin Ravindra, called a wide straight away. Rachin made him pay on the first legal ball, pulling a short one to deep square leg for a single.

Then, Ruturaj Gaikwad took over—Penmetsa kept it short outside off, and Gaikwad unleashed two cracking cuts for back-to-back fours, first racing to point and then finding the same spot again- pure timing on both! Gaikwad kept the pressure on with a single off a cut to deep backward point, and Rachin added a single of his own with an on drive to midwicket.

Gaikwad finished the over with another single, this time a square drive to deep point. Penmetsa couldn’t find his rhythm, and those boundaries really hurt.

9 runs from the over (1 WD, 1, 4, 4, 1, 1, 1). CSK 48/1 after the 5th.

He added a single to deep backward square leg on the third. Ruturaj Gaikwad then took over, smashing a six over deep midwicket with a cracking pull on the fourth.

But Chahar tightened up, keeping Gaikwad quiet on the last two—beaten on the fifth and stopped by mid-off on the sixth. Chahar leaked runs but finished strong.

Gaikwad kept going with a leg glance for two to deep backward square leg on the third, but couldn’t get the fourth away, stopped by mid-on for a dot. He drove a single to deep cover on the fifth, and Rachin Ravindra finished with a single to deep forward square leg on the last. Boult couldn’t contain Gaikwad’s early onslaught.

But he couldn’t keep the momentum, stuck for a dot on the fifth and beaten on the last with an aggressive cover drive. Jadeja kept it tight, but the six kept the scoreboard ticking.
